Lab codings?

Hey grads,
Does anyone know the medical coding for malnutrition?  My docs office gal called in my order for labs and didn't give any coding.  I was billed several thousand dollars.  The doc office won't call me back with the  coding info and my insurance won't process without the coding.

Anyone know how I can get insurance coverage for the labs?  I'm due for my next set and want to make sure this last round is paid for before I go to the vampires again.

I do the HUGE list cuz of my very short common channel (malabsorption and diabetic pannel).

Thanks!

Vitalady's list of labs has possible diagnosis codes on it, hopefully one will work for you.

Hello!

Your doctor's office should have a professional coder.

At any rate, codes for malnutrician are discouraged typically because insurance companies sometimes do not pay with certain diagnosis codes.

The professional coder has been trained and must have readily available information regarding coding.  Coding is what makes a claim payable or not.  It's a very important job in that if things are not coded properly, doctors don't get paid.  We all know that doctors want to be paid!  LOL

I would have also referred you to Vitalady's list but it looks like someone has already done that for you.  However, I find it a bit disturbing that your doctor's office is relying on you for such information.  That said, I realize that I likely don't know the whole story/situation.

No matter, YOU cannot provide the insurance company with the coding!  That would be you practicing medicine without a license.  Your doctor's office is going to have to step up to the plate and refile this for you.

If they are not answering your phone calls, perhaps you can email the office manager and/or your doctor to get the attention you deserve.  Also, call the lab who did your labs and let them no you are in a "dispute" regarding the billing as the doctor's office is going to need to refile. The last thing you want to do is have to pay out those monies or find yourself in collections because someone at your doctor's office is not doing their job properly!

I hope this helps and I wish you all the best!  :-)

I have two sides to my brain - a right side and a left side.  The trouble is sometimes there is nothing left in the right side and nothing right in the left side.
