OT - A deal on TVP
TVP is Textured Vegetable Protein or Soya Granules. I've been using it for well over a year to add protein to different things. The box says: FSG (Fearn Soya Granules) can be added to any baking recipe in any amout desired up to 25% because they remain separate particles and do not afect the rising. In breads, cakes and mufins which remain moist after baking FSG's add a hearty roughness of texture similar to an old fashioned whole wheat bread. In wafers, crackers, hard cookies etc in which the recipe is baked until nearly all the moisture is gone, the granules become more crisp and crunchy - like chopped nuts.
Anyway, Fearn Soya Granules are 22 grams of protein for a 1/4 cup measure. Trust me, this is HIGH...Normal granules, which are bigger are about 12 grams per 1/4 cup measure or less.
I found these granules at my local healthfood store for $5.15 for a 2 lb container. Not bad. But when I checked with them over the weekend, they probably won't be carrying it anymore. I checked with Trader Joes and no such thing there. So I went on line. At their website it's $6 a container including shipping. Being the cheap @ass person that I am, I checked somewhere else. I found www.vitacost.com where the 2 lb containers are $3.89 and however many you want is $4.99 shipping. I ordered a case of 12..That comes out $4,30 each...Such a deal!
Just thought I'd pass that along to those of you who are interested in TVP...Oh, and they TAKE PAYPAL... heheheh

Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

I have it as 150 calories, 13 grams of carbs and NO fat...
I've noticed that all vegetable (soy) proteins are NOT equal. Standard TVP from the health food store is about 12 grams. Some of the flavored TVP from harmony house foods is 9 grams of protein...I'm not sure why that is other than the granules are bigger and less weight in that 1/4 cup..
