Peterson's Hernia...Pay attention to your body

Good Morning all and a Happy New Year.  I am almost 4 years out and doing well despite some minor complications.  On 12/27/08 I was experiencing horrendous abdominal pain with vomiting which I attributed to Diverticulitis.  After suffering for 3 hours I decided that I in fact had some sort of intestinal blockage and headed to the ER.  It took 2 days to stabilize my BP in order to have surgery to repair the internal hernia (they were unable to decompress).  The lesson here is to pay attention to your body.  Also, for those of you who have had Bypass ASK your doctor if he has gone behind (old method still used by some surgeons), or in front of the limb reason being that the old way of behind the limb leaves you as a candidate for this type of hernia.   For-warned is being armed for the possibilities.

Vi, hope you are recovering well, sorry you had to experience this, I hear it is quiet painful.  I didn't realize that how susceptable one would be is based on the front of the limb/back of the limb.....great I know my surgeon did back :(.

WOW!  Guess I was lucky!  I had what my doc called Peterson's defect...the opening in teh mysentery that could lead to the internal hernia.  I had to have my gallbladder out and my same surgeon did it.  Whenever he goes back in he checks for this and repairs it. I had it an it was repaired before I had any problems from it.
