I am no where near being a WLS graduate but I like coming to this board as all you are very inspirational for newbies like me.

I am curious what level were you bypassed at?  A proximal bypass, medial bypass or distal bypass?

Doctor recommended Distal RNY.  Worked fine for me.

Proximal bypass, short (80 cm) and it worked for me.  I was concerned a "lightweight" although I didn't feel light about anything.  Made goal in 9 months (133 lbs lost)

I was done by Dr. Fox/Oh so I'm a distal, as measured by common channel length. I have the same model Dr. Chua mentioned below does, 100cm or 40".

Dr. Oh and S do a 150cm or 60" common channel, but they don't do as short as mine any more. Dr. Oh calls his a distal, Dr. S a medial.

If you're measured from the top (amt bypassed) you're either a proximal OR a long limb proximal, technically. A true distal is measured by common channel.

Medial is a generic term that could mean ANYTHING, depending on the speaker. LOL However, if Dr S did it, it's probably the 150cm/60" and if Dr. Oh says medial, it's probably 75"/200cm. As measured from the end, common channel.

So, for me, distal, 100cm/40" common channel. I lost 150 lbs, give or take a few and that's where I've been except when I got involved with sugar (3 times) OR been ill (not related to WLS) and then lost a bit (3 times).

We have support group meetings here in Puyallup, Jan 13/14. We have lots of Dr S and Dr O (or anyone else) people who attend.

RNY, distal, 10/5/94

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.
