please tell me what you think and be brutally honest

Today we were travelling back to knoxville from holidays spent with friends in Alabama.  I got home and started surfing and reading other posts and seeing other's worries, I decided to put myself out there and have you critique my travel eating today.  The truth is, I have lost my way with the eating.  I know protien first and all of that, but you know travelling is difficult for us at best, and with others to think about it becomes excruciating.  So here goes, flame me or not, but please reply and do so with brutal honesty.  By the way, I have been gone for 10days, been through a holiday brunch, a wedding, a funeral, and countless family dinners with vegitarians who absolutely refuse to look at things made of meat!  I left home weighing 107 in the morning and I weigh 108 at this time of night right now.  I am not worried about gaining a few pounds back numbers wise, but I am scared to death of gaining a few pounds back trend wise if this makes sense to you.

Here goes,

B:  Fruity trail mix including dried bananas, coconut, cherries, cranberries, pineapple, cashews, walnuts, peanuts.   I ate 3 handfuls.  At 130 calories for 1/2 cup, I guess I ate about 200 calories, according to the package.  Only other choice was waffles with regular syrup or left over christmas candy, fudge and cookies.
Lunch:  3 pieces of jerky and 1 small handful of pork rinds in the car.  Totally resisted the Krystals my husband stopped at.
dinner:  Cracker Barrell chicken and rice.  I ate all the chicken, about 6 bite sized pieces and all the mushrooms along with about 5 or 6 forkfuls of rice and 3 baby carrots with butter on them. I small sip of the coke in a bottle that my son purchased.
Snack:  3 jellied orange slices candies, These are my weakness.  At 200 calories for 3
Drink:  6 - 16 oz cups of tea with splenda and a splash of milk
2 flintstone vitamins

I really liked the trail mix stuff, and I wonder if eating all of those dried fruits and nuts are actually good for me.  I usually don't eat breakfast, if I do, it is oatmeal.
I know I could track all of this on fit day or daily plate, but I want opinions rather than numbers.  Thanks for replying,  D

Still, all in all, what you ate wasn't bad. You'd be really surprised how much protein and how little fat is in jerky...The cashews, walnuts, peanuts are good for protein and good omega 3 oils...

One pound from riding around in the car so much? Psh...No prob.

Vegetarians who won't look at meat? No prob. They have to have protein too and soy is a good source. I eat it all the time.

Good job.

Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Thanks for responding.  I was looking for affirmation I guess.  I see you posting often, and I share some of your same anxieties.  I am always happy to read what you say because it so often reflects my doubts and insecurities.  I was just wondering how far off the good girl bench I have fallen.  Thanks D

I'd call your eating day a SUCCESS if it was me traveling for the day.  I wouldn't stress about it one bit, the "worse" part would be the orange slices, lol, but I can understand you on those because they are my weakness to, I cannot have them around I can't control myself.

One pound: seriously?

Since it doesn't appear you travel constantly your eating (even orange candies and pork rinds) is not typical nor does it form a long term pattern (unless you keep eating those things)

Get back to eating like you normally do and see how things are in a week.  I would be willing to bet money your weight will adjust to normal as well.

Trail Mix is OK but some may have sugars.  Also, dried fruit and nuts are calorie dense so a little goes a long way.

Except for the vitamins & tea, it all looked better than I do.

You mean you had 2 Flintstones, ALSO, with all your other vites, right?

I didn't see water listed. Tea isn't a bad thing. THAT much tea is a bad thing

The orange slices (my dh likes those. yuck--waste of chocolate! LOL) would mainly be dangerous if they are a gateway drug for you.

I do short trips often, but one big mega trip per year and I did a stupid and "tasted" fudge in some tourist town. I was hooked and it cost me big time. It took considerable effort to undo the damage. It was like greasing my feet and then stepping on a greasy slide. WHOOSH, my shorts were tight so fast I thought surely the dryer was too hot! LOL One taste lead to a piece, which lead to a hunk, which lead to 1/4#, which lead to 1/2#, which lead to a #, never less than 3 one pounders in my frig (rv), and the words TRUCK STOP suddenly spelled DONUTS to me. And I never even LIKED donuts.

You're a better person than I am for making the effort to eat meat. I don't especially like meat or fish, so I do eat trail mix. It's busy food, nothing harmful in there. Altho we malabsorb fats/oils to a degree, I MIGHT get something out of it beneficial, right? And it won't hurt me, and isn't a gateway drug.

I don't count calories, though, only sugar g and the mcg or mg or IU or g in my protein & vites.

You did fine!  To be blunt you could poop a pound!  All that sitting and traveling tends to back up a person.  Just keep up the good mindset and youll be great!

Very good post too!
