X-post OT, Ovarian cyst

Hello group! WElp, I went in to the ER (worst time of year EVER to do that BTW) the other night 'cause I was hurting something awful- I thought for sure I;d torn some important bit or that I'd gotten the hernia that I half-jokingly told santa I wanted.  After a 12 hour wait I was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst.  This should, supposadly take care of itself, but it's a little on the big size - so we're going to have my OBGYN keep an eye on it and me.  I get good pain meds and a whole new reason to go crazy with worry.   Anyone else have had one of these? How'd it go? Was it pre or post your operation? any info from ladies who've been through this would be appriciated! THANKS!

Yeppers.  Had it pre-op and still have it.  In fact I had a hysterectomy due to large fibriods (sp?) and the ovarian cyst was discovered during that testing.  However, I was told that this was relatively common and that it was harder on our bodies to remove it (due to hormone fluctuation) than to leave it and watch it.  I was told - and my experince supports this - that the cyst will grow and shrink in cycles.  It does.  However, it's never gotten any bigger than it was originally and only occasionally does it bother me...feels like constipation, but only on one side.  I've been living with it for 8 years now.

Yep...Had a rather large cyst myself...before WLS surgery....They watched it for 3 months...Put me on BC pills (hormones) to try to shrink it...but it grew from golf ball size to a melon size in 3 months and the docs did emeregency surgery as soon as they realized that after an ultrasound of the enlarged cyst it had also become part tumor too (soft  and liquidy rather than hard like a cyst)...So they removed it and most of my left ovary.

It was benign...But it was filled with hair, bones, skin, teeth...YEAH!  YUCK!  Doc explained it as an egg still in my ovary that although never fertilized sent out signals to start growing and with only itself began to grow human traits without directions!  EEK!   Doc called it a dermoid cyst / tumor and removed it laparotomy (open surgery) for fear it would rupture and poison me. Cysts are all hard and don't rupture...so that's the difference.   I was 19 and just finished basic training in the army and was at my first duty station all the way across the country away from home.  It was quite scary...I got a little scar similar to a C section....and that was that! I went on and had two babies with my right ovary or a that little fragment that remained of the left ovary and always feared another tumor or cyst, but never got another...

I wanted to see the tumor...but doc told me I didn't!  LOL  So I never did...Oh well...It would have totally grossed me out I am sure...but I am a curious one! All worked out well!

Hugs!

Anita, OMG! I probably would have wanted to see it too. Weird curious thing that I am.

Glad things worked out okay for you, sounds like it was a little scary.

Prior to having my kids I had several ovarian cysts with a few that ruptured.

The beginning of December I was having some severe pain and come to find out I had a ruptured cyst.  I do have two more but we are going to monitor them again in Jan and then go from there.

I am hoping they shrink and I won't have to do anything else about it.
