HI All

I have gained some weight back and need to get back on track to lose... I came across the Atkins website and was reading the plan it seems similar to the lifestyle you should be living after GBS.... I tried ww and it wasn't for me...I was considering Atkins, but all in all I need to go back to the basics. What do you think about Atkins?

Thanks

South Beach or The Zone would be better IMNSHO.

That said, whenever I eat out with people who don't know I've had WLS, they think I'm on the ATKINS or something because of what I eat (Taco Salad - no bowl,  Chipotle Naked Burrito, etc.)

Fundamentally, however, ATKINS, South Beach or The Zone isn't something you will "do" until you've lost.  The change needs to be permanent AND doing the ATKINS forever is not really possible...that's why The Zone is better I think.

Read the Atkins maintenance program.. it is almost exactly what we should be doing.. protein, veggies and VERY little carb.. and what carbs we DO eat should be "good carbs"..Atkins gets a bad name because of the high fat almost NO carb 2 week induction.. (that few people make it past).. I think Atkins Maintenence OR South Beach (except for even less carbs..so more atkins maintenence) is a GREAT plan and one I"ve been trying to get on and STAY on since a year out.. Atkins (low fat of course) was really what I was doing that first year that I lost so much weight!!!  So if you can get past thinking that atkins is just eating bacon and cream cheese lol..then A "healthy" version of Atkins is exactly what I hope to do for myself to finally get my regain back off!!!  Part of what made losing weight SO easy at the first was yes our small stomachs..but secondly we ate SOOOO few carbs that our body was in a state of ketosis..which takes away your apetite.. so yes.. I think Atkins is GREAT, the "stereotype" atkins..not so great... if you know what i mean, research it a little more,.. stick with Protein and Vegitables... and eventually a little fruit or complex carbs..and I think THAT is the key to weight loss success with or without surgery!... At least that's what I WANT to do.. just having a hard time doing it!  A "healthy" version of Atkins IS the "basics"... or a lower carb version of SouthBeach IS the basics!! Protein first, then veggies, and a little carb!  I'm not going to commit till Christmas is Over..but maybe in jan I will!!

 Best wishes!

I plan on starting in Jan too.
Gotta get through the holidays, first.
We should have a little group for getting it together in January.
