measuring food question

First off I feel stupid for asking this. I'm 3 yrs 8 months post op.
My question is, I see alot of post ops that are 2 yrs or more out eating 1 cup servings. Does this mean that the whole meal that your eating should equal 1 cup or just the protein? I was told that protein should be weighed on a scale, veggies in a measuring cup. Is this true? If I have say a chicken breast with broccoli, what should the total oz be for both?
The Dr that done my surgery never required any NUT follow up after surgery nor did he require that his patients measure their food. He never set goals for his patients. I did not ever get to the 100 lbs loss. I'm happy with what I lost. I lost 85lbs. I have gained 7-10lbs (depends on the day I weigh). I want to drop this weight!
Thanks in advance

I am 5 yrs post op and I eat 1 to 1 1/2 cups total per meal. I still weigh and measure my food and track everything on SparkPeople to be sure I am staying within range on my calories, carbs, fat & protein.

Is there any WLS doctors in your area you could talk to about this? Maybe they could help you with your questions and an eating plan.

Best of luck to you and I hope you find the answers you need.

I got plenty of practice measuring stuff but I still do. I'm 2 and a half years out. I never lost 100 pounds from the surgery date either. My highest was 240, I'm 125 now. At surgery I was 214.

This morning I weighed out 4 ounces of turkey meat, a half cup of canned corn, a half cup of rice pilaf and a 1/3 cup of turkey gravy. I ate the turkey but picked alittle at the pilaf and other stuff. It's a guess that I actually ate about 1/8 cup of each of those things...

After you weigh chicken and/or beef a few times and then put it on your plate, you can pretty much guess how much you have if you don't measure it. The same goes with measuring the veggies or side dishes. A half cup looks pretty darn big on my plate to me.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Before Surgery: 214
Highest Weight: 240
Now: 125.6
Goal: 130

Thank You both for your response. I have called several other wl surgeons & no one wants to take on a patient of another Dr. My Dr has stopped doing wl surgery but will still the patients that he done wl on. I got my scale out & will start from there. I thankful that I still can't eat bread, rice, noodles (no matter what kind,I cant eat them). I pray I can loose down to the 100 lb loss mark, even if it takes me a yr to do it.
