I am with you, had surgery 4.5 years ago, gaining weight like crazy for the past 6 months,  I am terrified, I am able to exercise and am working out 5 days a week.

I feel your pain. But I remember gaining back 100 pounds after losing it with diet pills.

I know I am not as far out as you  are but I would suggest going back to the basics and get your hiney in the gym.

Maybe try the 5 day pouch test.

Stay away from diet pills those are the devil

Hi Lisa,
You know diet pills don't work, if it did we wouldn't have had the surgery.
Now for you the hard work begins, this is "tough love" here.
You have to exercise, hurt back is just an excuse. Time for you to give up excuses. Face the facts just concerning you.
Why are you reaching for food? Comfort? Depression? Are you bored?
You have to exercise, drink all your fluids, reach for protein first then fresh veggies and fruits.
Don't starve your body, fuel it with the proper foods. You know what to do, you lost the weight and you WILL lose those 40 pounds. Take control of your life. You are not alone here. Many people have this surgery and for some it was a breeze losing that weight.
After weight loss come the really hard work. Did you not think you'd have to work out to stay thin? This is not a race, it's for lifetime. What you did to you body to lose weight was a big decision. Now comes an even more big decision...Are you willing to change to be at the weight you want to be?
Oh yeah, I also have chronic back pain. Don't take meds and work out everyday. I do water aerobics, spin class, weight lifting class and cardio body sculpting class. I have my best friend as my workout buddy, she had the lapband and has done great. We both work out to maintain the weight we want to be. We hold each other accountable.
Can you find a workout buddy? I bet you can!! Now go, start calling some friends to exercise with. Start out slow with exercise but please challenge  yourself to get to a goal of exercising for one hour at least once a day. Do both cardio and weights. Water exercise is great too.
Good luck, keep posting and think positive you can do this.

hi Lisa,
I know what you are feeling too.. I am only 3.5 yrs out but have the same occurring.
you know I agree pill don't work..
but get this.. my dr.. suggested maybe trying them... but apetttite is not my problem.. it is not like I eat from hunger.. the surgery cured that.. I don't really think I get hungry anymore. I think its in our heads.. now if they had a pill for that.. i'd be set.. My issue are from the way our metabolism changes after this surgery... our bodies just don't work the same..
unfortunate to say.. but I have come to believe I have to live with it this way.. I can't change it back no matter what I try..
Good Luck to you..

Pills are not a last resort...eating healthy and cutting some calories is! You don't have to go hungry!  You have the tool that works!  I know it's not easy to lose weight once we get away from the honeymoon period...I gained some weight too at year 4 and went on to lose it...It was NOT easy and took a great effort. I had 10 lbs to lose and I too had medical reason to not exercise...So It took me 4 months to lose 10 lbs...but I did it and I have kept it off another year now!

You have to get back to the basic rules...get on track and stop eating crap!  Plain and simple!
DO the 5 day pouch test to get rid of the carbs, then start keeping track of the calories and carbs you eat...replace simple carbs with lean protein and/or complex carbs such as fruits and veggies and whole grains.  And cut 500 calories a day. (3500 a week)   You'll begin to lose about a pound a week!  It's a slow process but it works!  Eat til you no longer fel hungry then STOP, even if there is food still left on your plate...WEigh and measure your food....The more you move (even if it's just toning exercise...sit on the couch and watch TV while lifting 1-3 lb weights...a can of soup...water bottles..ANYTHING! )  Stand during commercials...Just stand! Starting slow and working your way up to more can come later....

Yeah, it's a lot more work than taking a pill...but
There are no magic pills...They didn't work before surgery, they don't work after...

NO!!!!  Don't do the pills--they only put you back on that old treadmill.

If you need help, join Weigh****chers.  That is a really well structured eating plan and you'll get the right help.

Good luck!
