Scared to death

Hey Everyone,

I am new to OH.  I will reach my Gastric Bypass surgury anniversary on the 17th of December.  My pre-op weight was 229 and I am now at 169 lbs.  I am happy with the weight that I have lost, but I am FREAKING out because I have gained 10 pounds back and if I regain my weight I honestly don't know if I could handle it. I am having a really hard time not snacking.  I feel like I can eat more now when I am eating regular meals too.  Self control has obviously never been a talent of mine and I feel hungry more often now than I did a few months ago.  I don't have the "full "  sensation that I used to get after the Post- RNY portion sizes.  Am I just eating past that point, have I stretched my stomach back out?  What is going on...I never feel satisfied!  HELP!!!!!

Are you eating dense proteins first or centering mostly on slider foods? Slider foods are soft and can allow us to eat more than we should. Dense proteins are like meat, steak, chicken (not like ground beef or stews)...You should eat those slowly and eat them first and DON'T drink with your meals or directly after.

If you're eating too much, you're the only one who would know. I suggest journaling your foods and measure them for a while to see if that is the case. If it is the case, you'd do really good by doing the 5 day pouch test to get back on track and see what you can do.

10 pounds isn't the end of the world. it's not like 100 pounds but I sure know what you mean. You feel like there's no difference between 10 and 100 pounds. You can do this...
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

I had a 10 lb weight gain about this time last year....I found myself off track on holiday at moms...just eating what I wanted and eating til I was full...Drinking with my meals...When Holidays were over....I could not seem to get my head outta the pantry or the fridge...I was buying Hersheys kisses weekly...eating bread with butter and rice and even pasta...I dieted and cut back and managed to lose about 5 lbs but......

I was having awful cravings too...Get rid of the carbs...I did the 5 Day Pouch Test  and found that worked GREAT...but it didn't help me lose weight...Just got me feeling more confident in my pouch and that it worked and got me to stop craving sweets and eating like there was no tomorrow....

Then came the hard part....The last 5 lbs....I just couldn't get rid of them...and so I began logging my food and joined the accountability thread...I learned what I was REALLY eating...I learned where to cut back on carbs and add protein and once I got in some exercise I was able to lose my weight and keep it off.  It's been almost a year now and I am still doing good...It would do me some good too take my own advice and start weighing my food again and being a little more conscientious  about my choices...I am off track a tiny bit...More like I am on the detour that runs parallel to the right path!  LOL  I'm close, but not quite there!   It took me quite a while to learn how to eat til I was satisfied and not full...often I'd find myself too full and that feels awful....So weighing my food insured I was getting enough and knowing what my amount of food should look like helped me lose the last 5 and keep it off.  I feel so much better now that I eat til I no longer feel hungry...It's really enough!  Now I try not to focus so much on food and I do well this way too...but as soon as I feel myself slipping away I pull out the scales again and clean out the junk food (No temptation, no mistakes!)

Try it!  Kick up hte exercise too....It's the season for shopping...so after dinner go walk for a few hours!  I love doing that after dinner...Better than snuggling on the couch and ready for a snack in a few hours!  UGH!  So I go out...walk...come back...and have a nice hot tea or sf hot chocolate...watch the news and go to bed!

Good luck!

Jess,
I understand your worry.  I am 7 years out from an RNY.  I lost 130 pounds but have regained 40 over the past year.  I recently found a 5 day pouch test on the livingafterWLS site to help regain a tight pouch and curb carb cravings.  I am planning on giving it a try, I hope this helps.

Thanks everyone.  Good advice.    I am going to try the 5 day thing...I've never heard of it until now.  Sounds like a good idea.

Check your carb intake--I know that when I eat carbs I get that old feeling of never being satisfied.

I have used the 5 day pouch test, and it does work, but the main drawback for me is that it just bricks up my intestines!  I have to add salad and olive oil before the 5 days is done or I'm a goner.

Best wishes,
