A Day of Reckoning

Wow, it's been almost 2 years since I had surgery.  It's been 7 months since I have been on the boards.

I have had regain.  I just gave birth to twins on 10-5-08, so I knew it was coming, but dog, it's ugly.  I gained almost 60 lbs with them.  Being pregnant was hard.  I had to eat constantly (better known as grazing) to get enough nutrition to support them.  They are healthy and well and 8 weeks old now.  However, I had to go against all my post-op training to keep them healthy.  And I also ate bad stuff and found out I could.  Thank God I became lactose intolerant post-op or Ben & Jerrys would have really done me in.  I have a lot of things to become accountable now for, and take this weight off.   I have not been able to exercise in quite some time and right now it's almost impossible as the twins are on every 3 hour feedings which means almost no sleep plus I have a 3 year old who needs attention.  I am feeling a bit sorry for myself as I eat this fairly dry tuna, but I must now fight the sugar demon, which I rediscovered during pregnancy.  I started eating it when sugar substitutes made me ill when preggo.  *sigh*  A lot of this is excuses, and a lot legit, but it doesn't make the end result any easier to bear.

It's a long road ahead, I weigh 227.  I have a lot to lose to get to my lowest weight pre-baby of 178.  I feel new at this again.  I'm scared I won't be able to do it again.  I'm scared my pouchie is doomed.  Please tell me someone has failed and conquered again.

Hey beautiful lady! Long time no see!!!

I think you did great considering you were carrying twins! Congrats on your new bundles of joy!

Just get back to basics. Protein first, don't drink with your meals, etc. Watch your grazing (might take a little time to get out of the habit since it became commonplace to get adequate nutrition). Maybe plan your meals out for a while until it becomes more normal to not eat so often. Like "I'm going to eat 3 meals and two snacks. My meal times are 7, 12, and 5 and my snacks are at 10 and 3" or whatever works for you. THEN you can see when your head hunger/mindless eating raises it's head so you can be better aware of it and try to quiet it down. Work through pushing past it and grazing will become a thing of the past. It's not hard to do it again sweetie - you have the rest of your life to work on bettering yourself - just make it really simple and follow the basics. Protein, water, exercise. You can do this honey! We believe in you!!!!

Jenny- I am so glad to see your beautiful face!  I was looking on the boards for you but wasn't successful at finding you.  Thanks for the support.  As I read through everyone's posts I see that I am not alone and just that makes me feel better.  I like you idea of planning my mealtimes, because I am on such a crazy schedule right now.  But I gained 3 more lbs this week so I have to get a hold of this NOW.  LOL.  I put my stuff on fitday.  Hopefully I am remembering everything I ate today.  Onward and upward right ?  (or downward, whatever, lol).

I'm not surprised you're going crazy taking care of two little ones - I remember being exhausted with ONE! Whew - you have a great excuse to be erratic!

One thing I wanted to throw out there just for the sake of talking about it is make sure you're eating enough. Lots of people go extreme and lowball the cals too much in hopes to get it off. Make sure you're not doing this - especially if you're nursing. Your body is brilliant and will hold onto every last ounce to protect you so don't fight it and take your time. Cause if your body is used to getting 2500 calories and you go down to 1200 it's going to feel the rug pulled out from under it! So I suggest you take your time. Cut the cals down slowly and get back into the groove. If you have a NUT that's worth your time maybe go and talk with her just to set up a gameplan. Never hurts having more artillery in your arsenal right?

Oh and I just wanted to add that if you don't have time to exercise (don't wake up early! Sleep when they sleep!) consider using the babies as exercise. Squats to lift them up (do 9 more and play with them and tickle their tummies). Then lift them over your head and do that 10 times (reps) per baby and make the fun baby giggly sounds). Sit them on your tummy (when they can sit) and do crunches. Use yourself to entertain them and have them motivate you to get some movement in (and use their weight as resistance training). And even letting them watch you do some video workouts would entertain them with kicks and punches and putting your right foot, put your right foot out - that kind of thing. Google search "new mom workouts using babies" or something and see if anything comes up!

You're doing great honey. Keep pumping the water handle. Water will come up if you keep pumping but once you stop it goes back down. So just put as much effort in you can to keep the water up!

Congratulations on your new bundles of joy!!! That's SO exciting!!!

I know there are many people here that have had regain and successfully lost it, so I know you CAN do it too! Detoxing from sugar is tough for the first few days~I often wonder why I get myself back in that position after I've successfully gotten off of it~its like a drug I guess!!!  Go back to those old rules, exercise when you are able to and take your vits. Things will start moving soon I'm sure. I know this is a difficult time of year to try to tackle this, so just do the best you can day by day. Good Luck and keep us posted!

Jenny and Tracy have given you great advice.  Are you also posting on the prego board?

I'm so happy that you and the babies are healthy!  I know it took a lot of work on your part to ensure that happened.  You should be very proud of yourself!  Congratulations!

OK I am with you. but my little guy just turned one. I am still trying to get it off i gained about 60lbs with him and i cant get it off. i dont drink with meals i do eat sugar and i try not too but it is very hard. i try to buy everything low fat and carbs. and i stay with protein first. i get in about 64oz of water a day and about 24oz of coffee and 24oz of herb tea. i find to post on the what you are eating helps allot. the scale still dose not move but at least i am accountable for the food i eat. Hope is goes faster and better for you. Sorry but i just did not want you to feel that you are alone in this battle. I am right here with ya. good luck. faith
