Hi!
I havent been here in quite awhile and wanted to pop in. I had my roux n y Jan 11, 2001. I have finally got to have my tummy tuck this month so I guess thats what put me into the OH mood again.
Already this board has been helpful. I thought I was the only one who had a problem with rebound weight gain.
Have any of you had Iron problems even with taking suppliments? It is the only deficiency I ever had and it came 5yrs out and quite suddenly. It took over a year of 3x a day iron to get it back up.

Good luck to all of you!

Hi Lisa,

I have terrible problems with my iron.  I take 3 pills a day and always with my vitamin C...but I end up going in once a year for 8 infusions.  I must say I feel drastically better after the infusions.  Im having my last one tomorrow for this round...well, if it got my number back up into normal.

Congratulations to you.

I just posted on the main board and didn't see this area for people like me who have been out for a little over 5 years. Therefore, I am going to start a new post here on what I posted there.

Congrats!  You did great! Good for you for losing a lot of the rebound weight too!  It is so hard to do for some reason...I used to be able to just cut back and lose 5-10 lbs easily...after surgery...I have to work my butt off to lose 3-5 lbs!  But it's not impossible!  I gained 8 lbs and never lost it too...I had gained more than that at one time and did lose it...

I too got vit deficiencies along with anemia at year 4 post op!  It took me 6 months of taking high doses of carbonyl iron, 2 mg copper and Vit C (both to aid in absorption) ....but it began working immediately and aftger two months I showed enough improvement that the doc cancelled infusions or transfusions....My ferritin climbed very slowly...but my iron and blood went back into normal quite nicely!

Everything else was just a matter of supplementation with dry forms of oil soluble vitamins or extra of zinc and magnesium... I was pretty low on many vits...and that was also when I had my weight gain! (10 lbs, which I did go on to lose SLOWLY)  I was off track and eating sugar and simple carbs, but I often wonder if the vitamin defs had anything to do with my gain...I am healthy now and eat more than I think I should and maintain with no trouble now...When I was trying to lose weight, I had to cut way way back because I could not exercise with anemia and magnesium deficiencies...So I HAD to diet big time! It was hard!

Anyway...I wish you continued good luck and health!
