Colon Cleanse
Can anyone recommend a good colon cleanse? I have been reviewing them online but am looking for real testimonials not ones that may be made up just for advertising sake. I have IBS with constipation and I'm getting desperate. I have been prescribed amatiza (sp) but it doesn't work. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you get info on this topic please pass it along. I had no results with Amatiza either. What I have found are from Target, its their brand of laxative and softener..works great over night with no lasting effects during the day....like not wanting toleave home because you are afraid to get to far from the john. I take 3 a night before bed....and voila! right after my coffee in the morning wonders never cease it works.....

Your colon is perfectly capable of doing it's job all by itself! It is, at best a waste of money. Why would you upset the balance of bacteria in your system that is essential for it to function properly with bunk? If you have constipation eat some prunes, drink more water and add a good fat perhaps some olive oil and in a few days things will clear out. Bulk and fiber are also essential for good movement so if you are having problems you need to reevaluate your iron supplement and diet.
I wouldn't recommend a colon cleanse. They are just laxatives and we shouldn't be using them unless our surgeons let us know it's okay.
I personally suffer from horrible constipation. No matter what I do, I stay constipated. This didn't become a problem until I was about 8 months post op. It would be nice if upping water and fiber would do the trick, but alas it doesn't do squat for me.
What I have found to work, and this is just what works for ME is eating a Trail Mix Kashi bar and drinking about 1/2 cup of coffee afterwards. It doesn't do the trick daily like it was, but typically every other day. I also take 6 fiber choice (not sugar free since I cannot eat artificial sweeteners), I drink a minimum of 120 ounces per day ,and eat apples and grapes and prunes practically every day. I still do not have terrific success in the BM department, but it's better than it has been.
If constipation continues to be a problem give your surgeons office a call. Sometimes they will recommend a Mag Citrate and then using something such as Benefiber daily and upping your water. Like I said, that didn't help me, but the above scenario did.
I hope you have some success. So far being constipated has been the ONLY downside to having the surgery. And I'll take the constipation any day!!

Phooey...the one thing I wanted to say I forgot!! PROBIOTICS! They truly do help balance everything. They don't necessarily cure constipation, but they don't hurt either. They're not expensive and are much more effective than eating yogurt. Just remember they are heat sensitive. If they get too cold or too hot they "die" and are not as beneficial. So make sure if you try them to keep them in a normal temperature area.
Once again I hope you have some success!

Oh, I hate being constipated, and my new drug (Cymbalta) is certainly increasing it.
I've started taking Senokot-S (natural lax with stool softener) every night and it seems to be helping with the constipation. No cramps, either, so that's good. I usually take Benefiber every day as well.
I've tried a colon cleansing product in the past, but it made me feel awful... stomach pain, cramping, all that yucky stuff.
Good luck... I hope you feel better soon!
