Salt, What is the deal?

My husband is a little under the weather, so I made a nice pot of chicken soup.  I had 2 small bowls myself yesterday, one for lunch and one for dinner.  Unfortunately, I can't eat this without wanting to put a lot of salt on it.  This morning I woke up with stiff, swollen fingers, knees that are stiff and stiff shoulders.  Knees and shoulders are fine now, but fingers are still a bit swollen.  I have never noticed, pre surgery, that salt would do this to me, but since surgery 2 years ago, I have not eaten much salt.  Do you think this is a salt reaction?  D

Salt and stiff joints seems odd to me.  IF you drank enough water otherwise and do not have other medical problems (kidneys, etc.) then your body will regulate salt naturally.

Perhaps you got "the bug" that was the reason for making the soup in the first place.  Stiff joints sounds flu-like to me.

I notice that salt makes a big difference to me now - when I was big a change of 3-5lbs didnt make a difference, now that I am small 3-5lbs means my pants wont fit.
I keep a close eye on salt... if I eat too much I immediately retain water, I dont experience the joint pain but perhaps that has to do with age? I notice it takes 2-4 days for it to get out of my system. Up the water and flush yourself out.

Salt has always made me blow up~pre and post surgery! I try not to eat high amounts very often and I hate to weigh on those days, LOL!

I am in the same boat as everyone else *****sponded.  Just yesterday I weighed myself in the morning and I had lost 2 lbs.  This morning I weighed myself and I gained 3 lbs.  When this happens I have to stop and think what I ate the day before and if it was higher in salt content.  I also notice that at work depending on what I have for lunch will make me feel bloated right away (and I make my own healthy lunches).  This is why I weigh myself daily because it keeps me in check and in tune with my body for better or for worse!  Today is the WORSE! :(

yesterday I weighed myself in the morning and I had lost 2 lbs.  This morning I weighed myself and I gained 3 lbs.

When I see a 5 pound swing, I always ask myself:  Did I suddenly eat 15,000 extra calories in the past 24 hours?  The answer is, of course, no.  I often think a good healthy elimination causes the bulk (no pun intended) of the weight "loss"

I think once maintenance begins it takes time (years?) to find a comfortable range in the scale.
