Do you ever feel like something is missing?
Do you ever feel like something is missing when you make dinner? I still feel like Im missing something if I dont make a side dish. I plan on beef kabobs tomorrow for dinner, marinated beef cubes with mushrooms, onions and bell peppers. I would of served this with rice pre op.. and I could prob eat some rice now, but Im going back to basics and even taking out the better choice stuff like brown rice or low carb pastas because I am a food addict and I just cant do some here and there I need to have a hard fast rule. I just dont think beef kababs make a dinner... I need a side dish... what is wrong with me? (lol please dont take that as an invitation to tell me all that is wrong with me... ducks and covers)
nothing is wrong with you. i think it has a lot to do with how we grew up and how our moms cooked.
dinner always included meat, veggies and a starch.
what i do now, since i hardly ever do rice or pasta, is sometimes i have two crackers with a little butter with the protein im making. i dont do it all the time, but when i have to have something else, this seems to work for me.
anyway, thats my two cents worth
be safe and well, and happy turkey next week, jacki

The idea of a carb side dish (potato, rice, bread) dates back to the turn of the century but I think it is something we can certainly stop eating.
There was a time when our ancestors were in genuine danger of starving to death. Given that meat proteins were scarce, the next best source of calories was the carbohydrate "filler" of rice, pasta, potato. Modern man is not going to starve to death, in fact, we now have the opposite problem: abundant and cheap calories.
I doubt you're a peasant or hunter-gatherer where the meal will be served to a large family huddled around a fire and limited to ONE beef cube, ONE mushroom, ONE slice of onion and ONE slice of bell pepper.

I know what you mean~its weird, but its the new us, LOL!!! I don't care for rice, pasta or bread most of the time, so its not a big problem for me~that's good new since I still prepare that stuff for my husband and kids! Also, I like to eat what I like to eat and I don't like to "waste" my limited room on things I really don't care for so I'm pretty picky about what I indulge in.

I know what you mean. Broccoli and California mix veggies have become my side dish staple. LOL. Like you, before, I would have carbed it up with rice or potatoes. I am a food addict too and have to stay away from certain things. There are some things I just have to not have because moderation doesn't work well.
I totally agree with you. I still put sidedishes on my plate but rarely eat them. I so miss Rice but it hurts my tummy so bad. I am always amazed when I make my plate like I should its looks so small even at 5 years out so I always add more but rarely finish even half. I am not sure this will ever go away.
I think it should be whats wrong with us :-)

I know just what you are saying. I am married to Mr. Potato Head...he will eat potatoes every which way from Sunday and meat....I am sick of steak and potatoes...it has become a joke inmy house because that is every Sat night and everyone knows it...
For the kabobs, maybe try and serve them on a nice bed of greens, butter lettuce or spinach...something like that and some fruit slices on the side....
