Food, food, food, can't stop thinking about it.

I'm 10 months out and have lost about 90 pounds.  For the last several months I have lost only a couple pounds a month.  I have been eating too much and too many sweets.  It seems like I am always thinking about food and what I can eat.  This is much like the way it has always been with me, at least before surgery.   I am really scared.  I just don't understand why I can't get over this desire to eat.  I have not gained, but not lost either.

If I could just stop eating any sweets I know I would be able to do better.   I have been looking for a support group, but can't find one in my area.

Any encouragement is welcome.   I am so glad I had this surgery and I just don't want to blow it, ever.

I love food, and sometimes I eat almost all day long. At least 6 times a day. That helps.

I also have some calorie free things to eat in a jam-- a sugar free raspberry lemonade slushie, or a few no sugar sweet pickles has saved me once or twice.

I plan everything I eat in advance, so I always know what I have "left" and that everything I eat each day will fit in my plan.

I eat plenty of sweets. Today I had a sweet pumpkin souffle with pancake syrup and whipped cream, and some chocolate peanut butter protein candy balls that are super yummy-- and later I will have frozen yogurt with some magic-shell like 0 cal chocolate sauce.

You have to be creative, inventive, and accountable-- at least that's my belief!

Thanks, I'll try more of the sugar free treats.  After surgery I was eating a lot of jello with pudding on it (sugar free) and I stopped.

I also think there is something normal to me about feeling guilty about eating.

thanks for your insights.

Hi Jupiter6,

Wow that all sounds so good.  Would you mind posting the receipes for the pumpkin souffle, chocolate peanut butter protein candy balls and the magic shell chocolate sauce.

Thanks in advance,
Denise

It'd take me a half hour to type all of those out--- eventually I will blog them, but for now could you check my recent posts, or search Obesity Help and see if they come up? I posted the PB balls on the RNY board...a few hours ago--

The chocolate sauce is made by Walden Farms. It hardens when you put it on frozen yogurt.

Hi There,

I think alot of us get really hung up on thinking about eating all day, we are either thinking about the healthy choices to make or beating ourselfs up for the mistakes.  I too love sweets I try sf coffees and hot chocolate, but often I just eat crap.....I think having planned foods is a great way to stay on track.  You might trying posting on your states board to see if a support group exsists in your area.  The support groups in my area were not that great, I really like coming here.  I normally only come on here when I have some complaining or a want to have a pity party, lol.  I have lots of great days but when I am feel down or need some encouragement this is a supportive place.

Good Luck

I haven't found a support group in Georgia.  I do keep a log of what I eat on Fitday.  I looked back this morning and studied the things that sent me over my calorie allowance.  I hope I can learn from that.

Yes this is a good place to get support too.

Hi Jane,

I had surgery right around the same time as you. I pretty much stopped losing about 7 months out, hitting my lowest. Once the weight loss slowed, I did the same as you and started eating too many sweets. I have been gaining and losing the same 5 lbs (172.5-176) but I think I am getting a real good handle on it. For me personally, carbs begets carbs. Once I start munching on something sweet, I want more.

It helps that eating sweets makes me feel icky. I don't dump, but I get utterly lethargic and fatigued. It isn't bad enough to keep me from eating them, but it IS enough to make me think about what I am eating in terms of "will this impact my job if I am about to keel over asleep?".

I know that this is specific to my situation, but I feel your pain. The key is that you need to break the cycle and get off the roller coaster.

Personally (and I am no expert), but what worked for me was to stick to 3 meals a day with no snacks. And I am using protein shakes for 1 or 2 of those meals. Dinner I make at home, and keep it relatively healthy with a focus on protein and veggies. I will make a carb side for the family, but I limit myself to maybe 1 or 2 bites.

So far, the weight has started flying off again--I was 178 on Sunday morning, and 172 today by doing this. It just shows that if you REALLY take the reigns and wrest control back, you CAN continue to lose.  We aren't done yet girl!!!!

Good luck,

Denise

You are absolutely right.  The more sweets I eat, the more I want.   When I get to the protein low carbs I am more satisfied.    I have done better lately and have dropped some more weight.

It's so strange that I know this but still have a battle.  I don't want to blow this wonderful "Miracle" that I have been given.   I have found 2 support groups that I am going to attend this month.  I think that will help.

Let's hang in there.  We can WIN.
