Sorry if this has been asked 100000 times... but I recently started drinking diet coke and was wondering how many of you guys drink it too?

I am 17+ months out.. had surgery June 19, 2007.

I don't want to sabotage anything, but was wondering as long as I stick with diet... what harm is there?

It hasn't seemed to increase my appetite or anything like that... It is just nice to have something besides plain water to drink... can't stand any of the crystal light flavors, nor can I drink tea..

Thanks for your reply's

Donna

I DON'T - I was told from the beginning NOT to drink it so I don't.  Although, I do other things that we aren't supposed to do.  Funny huh?  Like eating chocolate or anything else that I want I can have and don't have a problem, but I refuse to drink soda.  Just my opinion.........I had surgery on 8-2806

Hey Carol
I felt the same way for the longest time...We were told to stay away from it also... BUT, the other day I needed something to drink to take some meds and the only choice I had was Coke or Diet Coke.. It went down a little too easy, so I have been drinking a little bit ever since. I am totally trying to justify it by thinking since it is diet, what harm can it do... heck, I have done a lot worse.. hehe

Thanks for your reply

I drink a little diet gingerale or diet grapefruit soda now and then...Every once in a blue moon I might have a diet cola...but if it's very carbonated it actually hurts or burns and so I'd much rather have a unsweetened tea or something that offers me a little nutrition...or is just healthier.  (ie. no dyes, caffeine, artificial stuff and flavors)  Coffee excluded...I cannot give up coffee!  No how, no way!

I couldn't even take a sip of soda for many years after surgery...I was never a soda drinker to begin with so it's not like I missed it and wanted to go back....Just be careful...I find that trying one old habit sometimes triggers more curiousity for me...and if I can avoid trying old things... I do, because I am one of those people that finds comfort in old habits and so I try to stay away especially if it seems harmless like a SF, zero calorie drink ...Because the first thing I think about when I have soda is PIZZA... Doritos...Hamburger and fries!  So...soda doesn't usually come with good intentions in my house!  LOL

Hey Anita

I figured the carbonation would bother me, but it doesn't. I am going to try to not over do, and will stop if it starts causing me other problems...

I guess I am surprised that more people don't..

Thanks
Donna

I drink soda but try and limit my consumption. I am still plagued with low energy and instead of energy drinks choose to drink diet pepsi max... I limit myself to only drinking 1 serving on the days I work both my jobs or if I need it to make it thru the afternoon. I always make sure to keep up with my water. I also like Diet Dr Pepper as a treat now and then. I feel its ok as long as you are not making a habit out of it, or its replacing your water intake. If you find any ill effects from it then stop (diet mt dew gives me foot cramps so I stopped drinking it... only soda that does!).

I'm almost 2 years out...I stayed away from carbonated drinks until I got to goal, then I started drinking diet soda. It doesn't cause me any problems except I'm sure it's not the best choice and I drink less water than I should cause I fill up on diet soda. For me personally I view it as a bad habit that I will eventually have to curb...but it's really the only way in which I stray so I'm not too worried about it. I don't feel like it has "stretched my pouch" as some people believe it can,I haven't regained any weight.  It's not the best I'm sure but I sure do enjoy a cold diet coke or diet pepsi.  My best to you, Shari

I DON'T drink any type of carbonated beverages, water, decaf coffee, decaf tea, herbal tea & crystal light  Some of the Cyrstal Lights I find overly sweet so I dilute them with water, but I think I was told by my doctor that carbonated beverages can stretch your pouch. I don't drink and haven't had a drink of any type of alcohol for almost 2 yrs. just my personal choice,

I do, on occasion. But ILike to thin the gingerale or lemon lime with OJ or grapefruit juice (100% NSA juice of course) so it's less bubbly and has ome nutritional value. But on occasion I'll have a coke zero.
