As you can see I just had my RNY 3 weeks ago. I'm just wondering how many of you have lost and maintained your weight loss....I'm having a little rny regret, thinking I should of had DS and guess I'm just looking for encouragement. Thanks.

I am 3.5 years out and weigh 136 started at 287 I maintain but I also see a Nutritionist and therapist to keep my relationship with food healthy.  I think it would be this way whether I had an Rny or Ds.  I am happy with my surgery and would do it all over again.  Blessings on your journey.

Stephanie,

I'm only 16 months post op RNY but I lost 95 pounds (I was a lightweight) - which was 110% of my excess weight by 9 months and have maintained it since.  I actually have trouble keeping my weight up these days.

I don't regret my surgery for a second and would do it again.

The first few months are hard emotionally but you'll put through it.  Spend this time to learn how to use your tool to the best of your abilities and it will be that much easier to continue using the tool after you lose the weight.  Sure, I have some hard days, but for the most part it's not been difficult at all.

Hi Stephanie,

I will be 4 years out on January 3, 2009. I have continued to lose weight for the past 3 years. I went from a size 24 to a size 6/8. I have purchased 3 shirts that are size 4. I have not gained any weight for the past 3 years. What have I done to continue to the weight loss: I portion all my meals and snacks. I exercise 5 to 7 days a week at my female gym where I participate in group fitness classes. I lost 25 pounds doing the summer fitness challenge at my gym. I am below my personal goal. I have no hanging skin because my exercise regime has help tone my body. I love my RNY and don't regret having it. I live everyday as a WLS patient. I don't eat sweets, fried foods, or drink soda. I don't eat and drink at the sametime. I take my vitamin, iron, and calcium daily.  I follow my surgeon rules 100%. My 4 year check up is on January 9, 2009 and I am excited to let my surgeon know that I have followed his guidelines. Hang in there and you will feel better as time passes. Continue to get support from this messageboard. Great support!
Classes I take during the week:

Body pump    builds muscles and sculpts the body

Body Step  great cardio

Hip Hop Abs  tones the abs and love handles

Spinning (RPM) tone the legs and butt

Best wishes and keep everyone posted.

It's quite normal to have buyers remorse this early out. You just need to re-learn eating and it will be okay. No use trying to second guess that you should have done something else..You did what you did...It will work.

I am over two years out. My goal weight (from the surgeon) was 125. I have been as low as 116 but am, today, at 125.4...Right at goal. Same as I was at 11 months.

I'm obsessive about following the rules and keep very close track of what I eat. You can look at the accountabilty thread each day on WLS Grads and see what I eat..and what some other people eat. Your list will not look like that until you are a year but the time will go by really fast.

Knowing what I know now I would not have had any other surgery at all.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Before Surgery: 214
Highest Weight: 240
Now: 125.6
Goal: 130

Had RNY 14 months ago today. I started at 426 and now weigh 188, total loss so far 238 pounds, NO REGRETS. Good luck. Remember if you work the tool the tool will work for you.

Oh, at 3wks out I was wondering "what the hell did I do to myself!!!!!!!!" Now at 3yrs 10mths out I am thrilled that I had rny!!!! I am 5'9".  I started out at 328lbs and am currently around 155-156 and have been maintaining in the 150's for almost 2yrs now. It takes work, just like most good things in life, but its all well worth it!!!!! I wish you so much success in the coming weeks and months!!!!

I have lost and maintained.  In doing so, it is my belief that no particular TYPE of surgery (RNY, DS, Band) will lead to success as ultimate success will require facing your mental "demons" while simultaneously using the tool your surgery has given you.

In the end, a lot of your job will be mental.
