Changing up exercise routine? X-post
Sometimes its a matter of switching up days and other times its switching up exercises. So, are you rotating days~cardio, weight, cardio, weights or are you doing cardio and weights on the same day? I like to do heavy cardio m/w/f doing things like 5-7 miles of speed walking, 21 miles on the recumbent bike, 5 miled WATP, 60min of the Firm, etc. Then on t/t I focus on the weights~I do upper body tues, lower body thurs~I usually still do some light cardio those days if I feel like it. on Sat I like to do a core workout for my abs and midsection. Honestly if I hit a day where I don't feel like working out then I listen to my body and give it a break or some days I just don't have the time to fit it all in so I do a shorter, modified version of my workout. So in other words I'm switching up exercises and switching up body parts throughout the week to keep the body guessing. Hope this helps!

I wish you lived in GA. I'd love to have somebody like you to work out with. I went to a nice gym with my daughter, as her guest, and we did a class with step aerobics, weight lifting, and yoga. It was about 90 minutes and it was so much fun. It's hard for me to get toa gym though, and I usually do my own thing at home. I love the Firm. I'm using old tapes where they're all wearing those slouch socks. I'm going to get some of their new stuff, even thinking of getting the Wave. I have to leave for work at 8:00 a.m., so I have to start my workouts about 5:45 a.m. to get it done.
For the treadmill, bike and elliptical you need to up the intensity... the incline on the tread/elliptical... the resistance on the bike - if they have preprogrammed things try some of those... also try working faster.
MSN fitness has a ton of great workouts when it comes to cardio/weights... I suggest finding some you like and try them - most 'programs' are about 6 weeks long or so.... it takes your body approx that much time to get use to a routine. I would also suggest checking out some classes your gym offers to get a different cardio routine. If your gym has basketball, raquetball or indoor walking/running track switch to that instead of the machines.

I've been wondering the same thing. I alternate days with cardio and weight training, and always try to do some extra on the weekends when I have more time. I've used different exercise tapes and workouts I've found online and in books, but it's all basically the same stuff, just in different order. I'm getting some more stuff from the Firm this weekend, a box full of CD's and a step. I only have one set of weights, they are 10 pounds each, pretty heavy for a lot of the exercises. I'm looking like a man on top, flat chested and muscles sticking out everywhere. I sort of like the muscles though, considering what used to be there. But my plan is to use different workouts on my weight/resistance days and try to incorporate some different things.

I bought a step by Gold's Gym this weekend. It was at WalMart and cost about $35. It came with a DVD which was about 30 minutes long. I thought I was pushing myself pretty hard, but apparently not, because my top part is so sore, and it didn't even call for any weights. It was a lot of hopping up, down, side to side, and squatting and lunging all over the place. You even do ab work on a step, and I didn't know that. I thought you just stepped up and down.
