New use for TVP

This is awesome! I couldn't use the microwave this morning and so did something different with the TVP. I took a small container (4 oz) of Dannon Light n Fit yogurt and a half cup of TVP, small granules and ate it together. What struck me was that the TVP looked like something I've eaten pre-surgery...GRAPE NUTS..So here's my idea. I'm going to take a half cup of TVP and a half cup of soy milk, some splenda and eat it like cold cereal...Yum-o..I bet.

Just to let you know..My TVP and yogurt breakfast totals: 28...Yup. 28 even without the oatmeal. I'm a happy little camper with that info.

Still recovering from a night where I only got 5 hours sleep..See ya.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

I love TVP but don't eat it often enough. It is great on a salad as croutons. Also you can spray the big chunks of TVP with butter spray and sprinkle slenda & cinnamon & bake it for a great sweet treat.

I actually have some of the big chunks. I might try that. What I really like is to reconstitute it with boiling water and then lightly fry it with onions and peppers and make it into chili...Yumo!

Right now, is my prime time to ask, what is TVP? Where do you buy it? How do you use it?

I posted this as a response to the TVP question:
Textured Vegetable Protein. Also known as Textured Soy Protein. I buy it dry at the health food store. It's available at some markets in the dried chili section (I found it at our local Vallarta Super Mercado "mexican market") And it's available on line at harmonyhousefoods.com)

It takes on the flavor of anything you cook it with. You can use it (reconstituted) like ground beef but there's no fat, no carbs and mostly protein. 1/4 cup is 12 grams of protein..It tastes a bit nuttty just dry from the package and can be put on top of yogurt or cottage cheese (as a crunchy) but works like heaven in vegetarian chili...

I just discovered that I can eat it like grapenuts cereal...which is good too.
