I never thought I'd make it over here but here I am. And I'm SO GLAD I came. I have been struggling with slight weight gain (5lbs) and girth gain (went up a pant size) and I've been struggling to find out what is going on. I was getting so skinny but noticed that when I stopped my massage therapy practice I started slowly gaining. Then suddenly this morning I realized that massage therapy was a HUGE workout and when I stopped it, I stopped working out. Now I'm trying to get back into working and keep "making plans" but not DOING it.

Why am I more willing to take care of other people but so laxed in taking care of myself. I've upped my protein to 85grams per day in hopes to get the energy to start working out again. I KNOW I can do this. This is exactly WHY I did this surgery - to take care of myself.

Thanks for letting me post. I look forward to sharing maintenance tips with you!

You CAN do this and the first step to change is an admission that it is necessary.  Isn't it a sinking feeling, though, when the honeymoon is over and you realize that you can actually gain weight again?!sigh...Good luck to you!

welcome to the board

its good that you seem to have a handle on what the root of your problem is.

coming here to post is a great start.  upping your protein is also a good move.

remember to up your fluids also, they are so important.

i suggest that you start a walking program i find its still the best exercise.  its starting to get cold in new jersey, so eventually i will transistion to some type of indoor activity at the gym, but as long as its not frigid im walking when i can.  i try to exercise at least three times a week.

good luck to you, keep posting we all need to stand together

be safe and well, jacki

Hi Rebecca,

It's nice to meet you. Welcome to the board. It looks like our stats are almost an exact mirror of one another..., but it looks like you are a much 'younger' reflection. LOL

At any rate, I think the fact that you are noticed and are taking some corrective action at a 5 lb gain is very likely a very real change to how you would have handled things before, when we are over 260. I have found that being personally accountable; weighing, wearing clothes that 'fit' instead of give when I gain, and tracking what I eat and my activity go a long way towards helping me maintain the losses and gains that I've enjoyed since embarking on this journey. I'll bet that before you wouldn't have even 'known' that had gained this weight, much less work on doing something about it. Kudos on paying attention.

You are soooo right about taking care of others, but as we learned when we embarked on this journey, it's necessary for a us to take care of ourselves in order for us to have the where with all to take care of others. Sooooo, pay attention to what you are consuming and do what you need to do become active enough to burn those calories, because you are worth it!

Barb

Welcome Rebecca!!! It sounds like you already figured out where the problem area is, so finding an exercise routine that you enjoy will really help! It doesn't matter so much what you do, more that you do it on a regular basis. I like walking outdoors (weather permitting), riding a recumbent bike, walk away the pounds dvds, light weight training, and have a bunch of 30min and 1hr workouts that I dvr'd off of Fit TV that are great!. Find what you enjoy doing and stick with it! Keep that protein up, take your vits, get in plenty of fluids and you will be on your way to where you want to be! Good Luck!!!

Hi Rebecca and all the grads.... I've been lurking here for about a week. I'm a little over 1 year out from surgery, and have lost about 106 pounds.  I'm still about 50 pounds from goal and my weight loss has stopped. Do I work out? Yes! I run and I'm preparing for my first mini-triathlon in a few weeks.

Eating is another challenge. I don't like to eat much and when I do, it's usually crackers

If I never lose another pound I have come remarkably far. I'm smaller than I have ever been in my life and I'm doing things that I always dreamed of.  I just now realize that this last 50 will not go easily.  So Rebecca, congrats on coming out of lurkdom. :) I know you can make whatever changes needed to have great sucess.
Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired."
