18 mths plus out f/u with Bariatric Surgeon
Hi Gang,
Just got back from my apt. with Dr. Verseman. My labs are all fine. Last week I had a bone scan by my internist family doc and I had minimal bone loss. My doc said to be sure to lift weights (which I do x2 a week) and get 10 minutes of sun everyday...hey I live in Michigan...sometimes that is not possible. My vit. D was back up from last time also.
BMI: 26.2 (almost normal) Fat % 34.6 (I'm .6 from normal)
Again Dr. Verseman termed me a "success", I told him I'm not done losing yet (I weighed in @ 148 this afternoon) I'm 5'3" and would like to get down to my own personal goal of 140, it's within my reach. I like my curves and have no desire to be skinny.
I exercise everyday, and have decided when I had this surgery I would not diet, to make a healthy life style change and I did just that. I reach for my protien first then fresh veggies/fruits, believe in moderation and try to think like a "thin person".
WLS is not easy, I know how to manage my tool and have changed my life...for the better!
Learning to embrace the new me has it's ups and downs, getting use to seeing a thin person, wearing a size 10 does has it's challenges. I'm unual, I loved myself fat, I was happy but not healthy due to high BP, Gerd/Reflux, sleep apnea, back and knee pain and insulin resistant...all that's gone now.
New goals for me: Loving the thinner me, getting back to spin class in the winter and I'm thinking about learning to cross country ski now that I live in the country on 10 acres and can use the next door neighbor's field also. Any cross country skiers out there?
