I have not personally used it but my Mom and a friend both tried it when it first came out. They stuck with it for awhile and it did help them to lose a small amount of weight, but they both feel that it was more the dietary changes that helped them lose the weight~not the Ali itself. 12lbs is manageable and I think sticking with high protein, cutting out any bad carbs, getting in plenty of fluids, but not drinking with or 30/30 meals and increasing exercise will work just as well and cost alot less. Good Luck!!!!

I used the presription version before it became available OTC and it was before my surgery.  It was double the dosage.  It's just ilke anything else - you still have to do the work.  And if you chose to eat fatty, greasy foods, you will pay for it!  (But that wasn't enough to motivate me to stop.)

The best, least gross way I can describe your toilet bowl would be to imagine you put a greasy pan in the sink.  You know how the water gets greasy and a ring around the sink...  that's what your toilet bowl will look like.  Plus, passing gas can cause accidents.  It was pretty bad.  So if this is too much information!

So overall, for me it was just gross and I didn't lose any weight in the long run.

I also used the prescription version before WLS. I liked it actually and I did lose about 60 lbs before surgery. But I also was on the dietician thing for that 6 mos and also exercising every day to see if I could start making the changes before surgery before such a drastic step. I'm sure it helped in a way. I didn't have a big problem with the GI effects but I tried to be somewhat careful. I don't remember constipation anyway at all ever! haha! I was also thinking about trying it myself to lose some, so if you try it let me know how it goes? Good luck! (Oh and btw, it does have a warning on there about not absorbing a lot of vitamins and stuff and not to take if you've had any GI surgery, so I'd be really careful with that, and make extra sure you're taking your vitamins. I also wouldn't do it for a very long period of time, Just a little FYI!) :-)

Has pills helped any of us lose all the wieght and you maintain it??? Nope it doesn't work!
Know what does?
It's eating your potein first then fresh veggies/fruits, not drinking with meals and follow the 30/30 rule.
Exercise is a must!! Are you exercising?
The surgery is not the answer in the long run. It's called life style change along with exercise. Okay I'll get off my soap box for now.
You can lose those last 12 pounds, it's not a race, it's for life.
I don't advocate the 5 day pouch test. I'm all for what I've talked about above.

The above post is spot on.  If there was a magic pill would there be such an epidemic of obesity?  This surgery is one tool in a life style change.  If you are not adhering to dietary changes and exercise then your going to have bounce back weight gain.  Fix the real problem.
Good luck.
