I have the same kind of pain in my chest although I do not have the lump in my throat and it started about 2 years ago. I am almost 3 years out (RNY Jan 23 06). At first it started as a once in a while pain, sometimes minor pain and sometimes unbearable pain. It has become more and more frequent. I now have it nearly everyday. I have tried to pin point it to something I eat or do, but can not figure it out. If I eat I get it, if I dont eat, I get it. If I lay down I get it, if I am active I get it worse.... There is no rhyme or reason with it. I have asked my surgeon about it and he said that it could be GERD, gas, or it could be scar tissue. I have tried to take antacids and products like prilocept (spelling) but they do not seem to help....You should call your surgeon and ask.

I recently experienced very simular symtoms that landed me at the ER.  After all test were done He discovered G.E.R.D.   I now take Nexium daily and eat TUMS.  Has the problem at

I would also suggest that you make sure your vitamin levels are ok. Are you taking all the vits? For me I get that type of pain when my B1 is tanking. It feels like I am eating glass. It burns right in between my breasts.

I am two years post op, and I am experiencing the same thing.  My surgeon thinks I may have an ulcer....call your surgeon!!

I'm three years post-op and have had this (and still do at times).  I had an ulcer and was told I will always have to take meds to protect the stomach.  I was on Protonix and am now on Zegrid.  But first you have to have it diagnosed.  It's an easy test - an endoscopy.  Good luck.
