20 months post op and dealing with stuff!!! HELP

Ok here's the deal...

I've had 3 near fainting spells.... I wake up every morning nauseated... I've been having more headaches.  My heart races from time to time.  I've checked my blood sugar a couple times and its been low and then one time it was high. I've NEVER been diabetic.

Am I eating wrong? My habits haven't changed since I've done this. I've maintained my wt. give or take 5lbs for 10months now.

Now BEFORE you tell me to have my labs checked... I HAVE. They are PERFECT!!!

I have been diagnosed with a penetrating ulcer, back in July.

Anyone else with these symptom's?

I take a prenatal vitamin, try and get my calcium in everyday, and take B12 once a week. The only  thing I don't do is get all my water in. I've never been a big drinker.

Like to hear comments!

Your going to think I'm dumb, cause I work in nursing, but when you hear the doctor say over and over, we can't find anything wrong, and your feeling like your going to pass out, you know different.

Thanks all!
Stacey

HI Stacey,

I am 19 months out from my surgery now and a couple of months ago I felt exactely like you..for a year!!!!   Labs were fine.....nothing was wrong, the family doctor said.  My heart would pound and I felt awful.  Absoutely no energy, at all.  Fatigued all the time.  I had a hard time just cleaning my house.  I went back to my family doctor numerous times with the same complaints,....racing heart, very light headed at times ( in fact I did hit the floor once).   It wasn't my blood sugar....labs were fine again.  He put me on Prozac.  I was having an IV for dehydration about every three weeks.   I finally went back to the University where they did the surgery for my year and a half check-up.  I had gone there earlier but they figured it was just the results of the surgery and all the symptoms would go away.
They checked my labs again.  My vitamin D was low, so was the ferritin and some others.  Also, I drank Vitamin Water constantly and that brand has 15 grams of sugar and that caused my heart pounding.  Part of dumping syndrome, the physician and Nut. said.  It also caused diarrhea, thus dehydration, etc.  I  started on the vitamin D   1000 units right away, changed my drinking water to less sugars.  Simple, simple, simple.  My family physician doesn't know A THING about gastric bypass and side effects.  All the labs that should have been taken, weren't taken at my family clinic.   Anyway, I started feeling lots better almost immediately.  My heart doesn't pound, except with too much sugar, my energy level is so much better.  I took myself off the Prozac.  I am not light-headed anylonger and haven't needed an IV since my last check up at the University.
Anyway, to sum it up, you have to be an advocate of your own health and persist.  It is horrible not to feel well and be so darn fatigued and light headed all the time.  Please let everyone know how you are doing and if you found the answers you need.

I feel EXACTELY the way you do.... What did you do different?  Took Vitamin D?  Cause its so weird.. my calcium was up to 9.5 and usually its 8.8... I found that odd.

Let me know!  Thanks for the input!

Stacey, your doctor told you your labs were perfect, what labs did you have drawn?  Just because you are told your labs are fine doesn't necessarily mean your labs are perfect.

Get a copy of your labs to see what was drawn and what your labs actually are.  Actually if you can get the old copies of your labs also and do your own trend (look to see where you were and were you are now) you may find the missing link to your health concerns.

Vitalady has a great list of suggested labs and vitamins if you are interested you can email Michelle or send me a PM and I'll forward the list she provided for me.

At first glace of your symptoms and what vitamins you are taking, it leads me to believe you may be experiencing some anemia problems.  I'd also be a little concerned with Vitamin D and B vitamin deficiencies.

Best wishes!

I would LOVE to have that list!!

I've seen my labs... I work at the hospital and they are ALL in range. Nothing out of sorts except my calcium and it was up.... from 8.5 to 9.5 weird... calcium shouldnt just jump up like that. I go see my surgeon on Monday to discuss things.

I've been having more frequent headaches also...

You can send that list if you like to my email  [email protected]   if that's easier.

Thanks alot for your input.

I do KNOW I need to drink MORE!!

I'm not an expert in the supplement department, but I was thinking along the same lines as Dana. Also, really try to get your water in~dehydration can do some pretty crazy things to your body and mimic many other things. Prolonged dehydration is not a good thing. Strive for 64oz, but get more in if you can and be sure not to include caffeine in your diet right now if possible.

It sounds like "reactive hypoglycemia" also known as "late dumping"... this happens to me sometimes. If I don'****ch what I eat, and how often I eat it, my blood sugar goes all over the place. I've even tested it when I know it's really low, and have found that it's gotten down to as low as 45-50... yikes!

You might want to start eating smaller meals more frequently, and avoid sugar as much as you can.

Good luck!

The tough part of WLS is not the first year, it's those that follow.

Hi, Sexyskinny here

Have you checked your Potassium and magnesium levels lately? Sounds to me like you my be slightly dehydrated and suffering from an Electrolyte em-balance. Check you labs closely and very soon the side effects if correct can be debilitating. Good luck
