Back to Basics

Hi Everyone

I think I am going to do the 5 day pouch test just to get me back on the straight and narrow.  What I want to know is when everyone says back to basics does that mean to eat the way we did just out of surgery (proportion size) or are you referring to protein first, veggies, fruits etc.  I want to make sure I do this right especially since the holidays are creeping up around the bend.  I want to make sure I am totally off the carbs so I can be ready and successfull during the holiday season.

I take "back to basics" to mean back to protein first, then veggies, etc.; going back to drinking water or Crystal Light (or whatever); following the rules about waiting to drink for 30 min. after eating; and paying close attention to portions.  And preferably exercising.  (Taking vits goes without saying!)

To me, it wouldn't make sense to try to go back to the immediately post-op portions.  That's definitely not what the 5dpt recommends.

I desperately need to get inspired to do what you are doing--before the holiday season arrives.  You're right--this is a good time.

Always,
Jo

I decided to "get back to basics" about 3 months ago.  I just felt out of control again with my eating and I would pretty much eat what I wanted.  I just started writing everything down again-calories, protein and then coming here most every day and letting people know what I was eating.  I also starting drinking more water and excersising about 3 to 4 days a week.  I walk up to 30 to 40 minutes on the treadmil sorta walk/jog.  I walk for a while then jog.  I also strength train and stretch.  I think my biggest thing is just getting back into control.  I decided not to do the pouch test because I wasn't going to deprive myself like that.  I will NEVER be on another diet.  I also drink atleast one protein drink a day.  I try to only go between 1500-1800 calories a day and I like to get atleast 100 grams of protein.  Good luck to ya and God bless, Penni

It is everything...Protein , then veg etc and no drinking until 30 min after the food.   Portion size counts too I feel ...  Actaully if you eliminate the carbs and do protein and green veggies , cheese eggs etc as in the Atkins , that always gets me back on track .,,,
Wishing you luck and SKINNIER WISHES if that is your goal :)
