Intervention needed....butter!!!

OK - I'm 15 months post-op and I'm at goal.  When I hit goal at about 10 months my surg told me to increase my cals.  Well that was difficult but slowly I got them up there.

Well prior to hitting goal (for the first 10 months post-op) I didn't have ANY butter.  Then I started using Land-O-Lakes light butter...a little on my cottage cheese pancakes...a little in my protein oatmeal...

Then a little turned into a lot!  Now I have a little oatmeal with my butter!  Today has to be the absolute worst and the straw that broke the camel's back...I put my stuff in fit-day - being totally and completely honest and over half of my calories consumed today were from butter!!!  OMG - that's so gross!!!  Plus it makes me super sleepy after eating it so I know I'm dumping on it a little bit.

I haven't gained any weight - YET...but I know I'm on a dangerous trend here and apparently butter is some kind of trigger for me (ya think!).

Anyway...please help me find alternatives.  I just cleaned out the fridge and tossed the butter I had.  Now I only have the sticks of margarine that the rest of my family uses and I think it's gross and not worth the calories so I know I won't touch the stuff.

I'm going to try and go cold turkey on this...I lived without it for the first 10 months post-op I can certainly live without it now, but I just feel like I need some tips on how to replace it with something or how to walk away when it's calling my name.  This is the first "problem food" I've had post-op and I want to nip it in the bud before it gets even more out of hand.

Anyone?  Please help!

I am going to be no help here....butter is God's gift to humanity!  Bread was invented so I could utilize my butter properly.
I am so sorry!

You're right...you're no help!!!  LOL...

Butter (like anything else) in moderation is fine.  But apparently...my brain doesn't recognize that those two words, "butter" and "moderation", should even be remotely related....hence my problem.

I can't believe it's not butter - spray.  My daughter loves it.  Me, not so much lol.  But it is a good alternative and limits how much you use.

omg stop it.  dont dont tell me your stressing over butter

get rid of it, get butter spray, do what u have to.  you know you dont want to be doing this!!!

seriously, if you are having a butter issue, maybe get it out of the house for awhile, till you feel more in control.

good luck, jacki

I too recently started using butter and then had some lab work done where my cholestral had gone up..Now in  the past that would not have stopped me but since I had surgery to help me with my health and weight I quit using it. I would be so mad if I keeled over from butter and looked thin..ya know what I mean!!! Anyhoo I know what ya mean about a trigger food. Look at it like the devil and turn the other way and run!!! It is not worth it!!!!!!

The spray is good...Try and wean yourself off the stuff slowly...Even the margarine is 100 calories for a tablespoon. I just hate adding that many calories thoughtlessly...

It's good that you're honest with fitday...It really keeps me on track and accountable. AND lets me know when I've been good and can "afford" a small indiscression..LOL
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

How many calories are you eating daily?

Usually between 1200 - 1500 a day.  I had my RMR tested and in order to maintain I'm supposed to be eating at least 1500 a day but I have trouble getting that much in usually.
