I am new to this board. I had Gastric RNY surgery at the Barix Clinic in Ypsilanti 9 weeks ago today. For the past 8 weeks, I have had no appetite at all, and have had a lot of difficulty getting in my fluid and protein requirements. That was then - this is now - suddenly this week I am famished. I seem to be searching thru cupboards and the fridge looking for something to eat. I do not want to stretch my pouch, but am finding that the 1/2 cup meals we are suppose to eat aren't cutting it. I always have protein with my meal/snack. Maybe I am just getting bored with the choices I am making. Any ideas?? I have lost 43 lbs. so far, but feel like my wt loss ha**** a plateau ( again ). What are some of your favorite meals to eat that keep you satisfied? I am getting sick of the same old things. Any help you may offer me will be greatly appreciated.

                         Thanks in Advance

I am 5 years post op & the 9 week mark seems like years ago :-)   The only thing I can remember toleratiing was chocolate protien powder mixed with soy milk, I would make about 1/4 of the recipe and have it every few hours. I did get in Tuna with a tiny bit of Mayo.  I still never really get hungry unless its "girly" time then watch out fridge!!

Good luck

Hi lilygarden are you waiting to drink your liquids for 90 min after meals? that may have something to do with the hunger. Early on after I had WLS my surgeon instructed me to wait 90 min after a meal before drinking anything. I've been having that same problem however, I remembered early on about the rule no drinking while eating and waiting to drink after 90 min and it has helped me. Are you timing yourself at least 15 min per meal? if not try these to suggestions and see if they work.  I want to lose 30 more pounds so I went back to basics on this past Monday.

I am 3 yrs out. At 9 weeks, everything tasted great to me, and my problem was I couldn't eat much, so when I made a choice, I couldn't eat enough to get satisfied!  I also still stay full for a long time on protein, so overeating isn't an option for me.
I still eat dense protein first, but.....Since I'm not getting enough protein, I'm changing up, due to a suggestion from Dawn. I'm drinking my protein EAS carb control drinks and waiting a while, and then eating the dense protein first meal.
Be sure you aren't drinking with meals, and stop drinking at least a half hour before you eat. You can stay full longer this way. Eat your meat, cheese or eggs first. then have nonmushy veggies, and then carbs if you still have room. At 9 weeks, you may feel that you don't get full, but the sensation of fullness usually begins several weeks to months after surgery. So keep measuring until you can tell you're full, or if you never can tell, just keep measuring. And as I mentioned, check what you're eating. By dense protein, I mean fish, chicken, beef, pork, or eggs. 2-3 oz of these FIRST, then veggies, like broccoli, brussel sprouts, raw cabbage like slaw,  greens, carrots, asparagus, leeks, green beans, mushrooms, okra, summer squash, zuchini, turnips, eggplant, tomatoes and lettuce, cucumbers.
Once you eat your protein and a small serving of veggies, you should wait and see if you have a feeling of fullness. Most people don't stretch their pouch, they stretch the opening from the pouch to the intestines. Then the food goes straight to the intestines, and a person can eat a lot, the intestines stretch a lot.
Good luck with your weight loss.
