Can I get some advice please ~ oldie here

Hi ok just to give a little bit of history I am almost 7 yrs out from gastric bypass surgery RNY Dec 2001, my highest weight was 280, the morning of surgery i was 273 after apx 18 months i lost apx 140+, got down to my goal of 130  YEA...anyways in May 2004 I had my first son and manage to lose the 25 pnds I gained with him getting myself back to my goal but fluctuating between 130/135 which was fine then I had my 2nd son in Jan 2006, and again got back down to my goal or i should say close to it (i gained about 35 pnds with him) i was flucuating between 133-135 again...then in Oct of last year 2007, i had a relaspe in my ITP illness which required me to be on prednisone (steriods) high dosages -low dosages it just went back and forth but in any case I was on them for apx 5+ months and gained about 15-20 pnds again i have always flucuated with the 5 pnds ... now its been several months since i stopped the pills but i havent been able to really set my mind to losing those extra ponds, any suggestions??? i want to do it i just cannot convince myself to do it....i thought about a total detox program to jump start and start fresh but i cannot find a detox that doesnt have any horse pills in them...any suggestions on that?  any advice would be greatly appreciated ... by the way you all look awesome i have noticed how amanzinly wonderful you all look ... gives me insentive but i sitll need more...

SOUNDS LIKE YOU DID VERY GOOD NOT GAINING MUCH WEIGHT WHEN YOU HAD YOUR CHILDREN. I GAINED 85 LBS. WITH BOTH OF MINE. BUT I HAD NOT HAD BYPASS YET. I HAD TO TAKE PREDNISONE FOR MY KNEE ONCE AND I PACKED ON THE POUNDS AND MY TEETH GOT BAD. DON'T KNOW WHAT WAS UP WITH THE TEETH THING. I JUST WANT TO SAY GOOD LUCK AND JUS****CH WHAT YA EAT. I think you've done extremely well with going thru 2 pg's and taking the steroids!!! I do understand how even a few pounds can make you feel bad about yourself. I don't know much about detox programs, but I do know there are several plans people around here use. You seem to have done wonderful.  Prednisone is Known for weight gain - it's proven and NOT your doing.  Just work from where you are at.  7 years post-op and keeping your excess weight off like you have, you are an inspiration.  Girl you've even had babies!!!

wow thank you ladies for the wonderful replies...at least i have hope now  and I dont feel so bad about my weight gain...I think I was being hard on myself but ever since I had the gastric bypass surgery I have always wanted to maintain a healthy weight and that is very important to me to stay healthy for myself but especially for my children....

I have been on steriods 3 times in my life the first being in 1993 when i was first diagnosed with ITP, which I gained alot of weight from, of course i bloomed up and never lost the weight, played the yo yo weight gain till i researched and finally decided to go with gastric bypass, which has proven to be the best choice for me...I was on the steriods for over 2 yrs at that time so when i got off of them after having my spleen removed i thought for sure i was home free but then had a relaspe with my ITP and combination with HELLP (pregnancy related) at 35 weeks with my 2nd son I was loaded with platelets and steriods before delivering him and after, but only had to take the steriods for about 2 weeks so it didnt have a big impact.  But then in Oct I did have another relaspe and of course gained the weight which disappointed me, but at that time I really had no choice but to take them.  Thank you so much for your support and the links are awesome i went to both of them and printed them out and will try both of them...I will post an update after i have done the programs....its been a long time since i have posted but i always feel so good when i come here...hugs

Thank you all again I am starting the 5 day pouch test tomorrow....i will report how that goes when I am done with it...and try to keep an udate on my journal as i go...

Deanna, my husband has ITP also so I can sympathize with you as I've seen the massive amounts of steriods he's taken and how it affect his weight.

You've done amazingly well with 2 pregnancies and your use of steriods.  You can do this, you are a true success story to many of us following in your foot steps. 

thank you so much that means alot to me .. i remember when i first started my journey and i read and read and read i would be up all hours of the night just reading journals and looking at before and after pictures of all our wls sisters and brothers, that is what got me here today along with my determination i just gotta get back to that so i been trying to come here again and get back into the swing of things...I still need to do my 5 day pouch test thing, as i rec'd a nice little visit from AF she is gone now hehe so i dont have an excuse except for to just do it i know i will lose ithe weight i just gotta get my butt in gear..

how is your husbands ITP?  this last oct when i had my relaspe it was as low as 6 (6000) i asked the dr how i was alive with those numbers he just shook his head lol....how  long has he had it    if you want to talk privatly you can email me at [email protected]
