I am five years post op lap rny-distal. I lost 166 lbs to hit goal and now, I've gained about 45 back. I want to start again to lose it and people have recommended to me the 3 day liquid protein train to get a jump start. I understand it all, but I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what type of protein shake to use? I recall learning in my nutriion class that protein is ideal if the grams of protein are equal to or are more than 1/10 of the calories. For example, a shake that has 200 calories should have at least 20 grams of protein.

Also, I know that a big reason what this is helpful is because it can help with sugar cravings, and I am severely addicted to sugar, so I was wondering what the daily sugar limit should be for protein shakes.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions. I would love to hear from those who have done this regimen and can offer any advice.

In search of better health,
Kristy

Hi Kristy, good luck with your liq. diet but that's just it...it's a diet.
Here's my suggestion to you to detox your body from sugars.
Lay off carbs especially white carbs (rice, pasta, white bread, potatoes ect...) eat dense protein like beef, pork, chicken, turkey ect...they will stick with you and you will feel full longer.
Are you drinking pop/soda? If you are stop, diet soda will just make you more hungry and you will crave crappy foods. Are you drinking alcohol? If you are stop until you get to desired weight. How about exercising?

I too am addicted to sugar and I do so much better and feel better when I watch the carbs and do more protein. I also exercise everyday and am active in support groups.

Hope this helps, good luck you can take those extra pounds off...and I get all my protein from food, not shakes (yuck)

I am 2 years out and realize I am a rookie compared to you but am also a sugar-oholic.  I find it easier to go the, I can't do that fooe danymore route.  The best advice I have ever gotten is rather than fantisize, take a bite or two.  I have been able so far to stay clean enought that while a bite or to may seem tasty, it usually isn't as wonderful as I envisioned and I feel so gunkie afterwards, it just isn't worth it.  I still do stuff like oatmeal with Whey Isolate protein powder for breakfast, 20 gram Pure Protein bars during the day (2 mid morning and to mid afternoon) to get 80 gms plus the 20 at breakfast.  I try to keep portions small and stop when I start feeling full  so the pouch doesn't get stretched and don't go more than 3 hours without something except for sleeping so my body doesn't go into starvation mode and burns more efficently the calories it gets (rather than stores).  Getting my daily vitamins and water also help me to feel better so my outlook and prespective are more upbeat and attitude remains determined to succeed.  Lack of protein and the correct vitamins and minerals can lend to feeling bad and the onset of depression that leads me back to the old burying mysellf in eating habits I have to stay away from.  Daily walking and jogging are also major helps for me.  Best of luck.  Keep us posted on your progress.

I had the same issue...I gained 20lbs after having my daughter.  In a few weeks I'll be 3 yrs. post-op and I want to get down some so I can weigh myself and include it in my blog...therefore, I've started the Protein Train.
The Protein Train for 5 days of protein only.  go to google.com > insert protein train

Hope that helps.
