How many grams of protein do you eat a day?

I am 1 year and 5 months out.  I am getting back on track with my remaining weight loss after vacations and summer long weekend trips.  My old nutritionist (which I really like) is with another group which does not accept my insurance.  I really don't care for the new one I found.  I asked her at this stage how much protein should I be taking in and she said she did not like to give out numbers becuase we get too fixated on them.  All I want is a range.  I have read many articles and postings about how much you are supposed to have and that you do not want to eat too much.  Just curious about how much everyone else is consuming.  Thanks for any advice you can provide.

I typically eat between 100 and 120 g of protein daily, within my daily 1500 to 1600 calorie range.

You are suppose to eat 1g per every 1 pound you weigh.  Now for many of us that is almost impossible so I always try to get in 100 to 120 a day and fall short many times.

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense-- this would mean that a fresh post op who weighs 300 pounds should get in 300g a day? And that I-- at 166 pounds-- should get in 166 a day on 1100 calories?

I get in a minimum of 100 grams a day. More if I'm very active. I am 2.5 years out and doing fine!

With the DS: there is no stoma, so no stoma strictures; there are no limitations (other than volume) against drinking before, during or after meals; 80% of ingested fat is malabsorbed; 98.9% of type II diabetics are CURED of this devastating disease, with data showing stable cure over 10 years out; there is the best average weight loss and most durable (average 76% excess weight loss going out 10 years) of all of the bariatric surgeries.  That's why I had a DS!

That estimate is for a normal person not one who had had bariatric surgery.  Think about a person who weighs 300 pounds would consume more calories than someone who weighs 166 that is how they estimate it.   Like I said I am lucky to get in 100 to 120 and that is what I shoot for.

For me, I am 18 months post-op and I take in about 80-100 grams of protein a day.  I think that as long as you meet the required 60-80 grams a day, you should be okay as long as you're doing everything that you're supposed to do like staying within the 20grams of fat a day and exercise, you should be okay.

Without half trying, I get in the minimum 70g; however, I generally eat b/w 90-100g,  sometimes a little more.

Always,
Jo
