Here are my smptoms but docs can't figure out what's wrong

Had been having intermittent episodes of crampy abdominal pain in the left upper quadrant that at times would double me over they were so severe.  Accompanied by belching, bloating and flatulence....feel just full of air when it happens like the gas is stuck and can't move anywhere.  If I lie face down on hard surface I can get it to resolve.  Last two weeks I have had more episodes, more frequent and longer lasting and now I have this low level ache in the pouch that radiates right straight thru to my back (the back pain seems to be getting more severe as the time goes on).  Can't seem to tolerate anything but liquids without aggravating it.  Hospitalized twice in the last two weeks on IV's and all tests are negative..CT, upper/lower scope, barium swallow and barium meal.  Only thing that shows is my little pouch has herniated up into my esophagus and my new plumbing is slow to empty on the barium meal.  I am worried I may have another intermittent internal hernia that doesn't show on the CT scan.  Any one else have similar story and advice?

Hiya AZ,

I know exactly what you are going through and the frustration from having so many tests with so little information. You mentioned that your pouch has herniated up into your esophagus.  Do you feel like something is stuck in the middle of your chest pressing on your throat?  I am not sure if that was the best way to describe it but I am kinda at a loss for how to describe it properly.  I had an upper GI and I had a notation about possible hiatal hernia. Yet, the dr. that order this said my test results were normal. Pardon my language but I think he's a dumb@$$.

I have all the same things going on w/ me except my pain is on the right side. I am going tomorrow to see my WLS and I hope he will give me some answers. Like you I fear that it could be an internal hernia. I've never experienced anything like that and it freaks me out quite honestly.

I am so sorry that you are going through all this. I hope you feel better soon and if there's anything I can do, please let me know. Also, once I hear something back from my dr. I will let you know what I found out. Hopefully I will have something useful to share soon.

Sincerely,
April

Your symptoms sound exactly like my imtermittent internal hernia.  Nothing showed on any of my tests.  I was misdiagnosed during my pregnancy.   They just said the baby was taking up too much space.  As soon as I told my symptoms to my surgeon, he said it was the inter. int. hernia.  He said the tests rarely show it.  He did exploratory lap surgery and found to areas he believed could  be causing the problems.  I've had no problems since.

Good luck.

Thanks to each of you for your input.  I am supposed to follow up with my surgeon today and hopefully she will schedule an exploratory lap to see what the heck is going on.  I really feel unwell (if that is even a word) and can't even consider going back to work like this.  I have been out 2 weeks so far and am getting worried that this is how I am going to be long term.

I haven't had these symptoms but from the years I've been on OH and talked to others (not affiliated with OH) your symptoms definitely seem like an internal hernia that many times test will never show.  Are you talking to your surgeon?

Please be persistent and if they can't see anything then demand an exploratory surgery........in addition to a i.i.t. adhesions could be causing you problems.

Best wishes,

I had similar experiences. Docs couldn't figure it out. I started to cut things out of my diet one by one. Low and behold it was Sugar Alcohols. Dang it! I found a yummy protein bar, it was PACKED with protein but PACKED with Sugar Alcohols too. That was it........it was making me totally bloated, gassey.....and with our tiny tummies, a lil air seems like a whole entire gallon of a fart!!!

Hope you find some relief and answers real soon.

I thought it might be food allergies early on too and eliminated stuff one by one.  Milk; carbs; etc.  The final test though was when I was not eating anything at all while I was in the hospital and the symptoms persisted.  I am hoping she finds an answer soon.
