OMG....I am so with you! I will be out 3 years come May.  I never got to MY goal..but lost around 90 pounds and was doing good,I thought. Then I quit losing winter and infact had gained about 5 pounds. Well, now over the SUMMER I have gained 15 total back. I read somewhere that the average weight gain back is 15 pounds... But I don't want to hav e that gain NOW!! I never got to my goal! I feel like such a failure in this! I have been under allot of streas over the last year, but I am scared about right now about this weight gain! I can eat ANYTHING and not get sick at all.....sure wish I could! Sometimes I think my pouch quit working!
I feel awful, too,my clothes are getting too tight on me........geez!

Hi Kim, My revision to RNY was on April 12, 2007. I also have problems with low blood sugar now in fact I have reactive Hypogycemia. I don't drink with my meals. Exercise everyday walking and today is my water aerobics day and I also lift weights. Spin class will be added this fall when it gets colder outside and I can't ride my bike. You are not a failure, this is an ongoing thing with us watching our weight and we always have to be careful. WLS does NOT keep you thin, you keep yourself thin. Stay away from the old junk, if it's in the house throw it out. If you have to have junk in the house for other family members, keep it down in the basement of someplace where you have to really reach for it. If you aren't exercising now is the time to start. Remember how well you felt when you were 15 pounds lighter, you can do this, it's only 15 pounds, remember it will take time to get those pounds off but they will come off.

If you are craving sugar, as you stated it may be that you are taking in too many simple carbs, like white bread, potatos, white rice, processed snacks, or sugary products. Try to go back to protien first, and have a protien snack inbetween meals. Lots of carbs make you want more carbs. Having a protien snack and concentrating more on protien may help your blood sugar remain stable too.

Hi Kim,

Yeah for the lower sugar. I get the low blood sugar shakes - especially if I eat a lot of sugar/simple carbs during the day - it's delayed dumping. Great write up here that I found tryingto find info about ulcers as I was just diagnosed with having one caused most likely from the caffiene I ingested via dark chocolate: http://www.myweightisover.com/PostOpBariatricPatient/longter mcomplications.aspx
If you're craving sugar my surgeon said it's usually because you're not getting enough protein. Remember tea has caffiene unless you're making your own from decaf. Try uping the protein, cut out the ice tea and see if that helps. Good luck, and if all else fails, have a jar of peanut butter handy.

Hi Kim,

I so understand why you're asking. Plain water gets old quick. I'm going to quote my surgeon & his staff. "No snacks. A snack is anything that has flavor." If you're concerned about still trying to lose weight then I would try to not put anything in the water. Your mind doesn't know that the flavored water is calorie free - it responds to the flavor and acts like you're putting calories in. Otherwise, no one has told me lemon juice is bad for us in any way.
