What to do?

Hi everyone.  I am a year out from RNY, just had TT Aug. 26.  I am almost 40, 5'1", four kids and a Grandbaby.  My lowest weight was 115...now up to 120-122.  My hubby and Surgeon both want me to get to 140.  They say I am too thin and that is a healthier weight.  I am only a year out, just had TT, and I feel like I am going to gain eventually anyway, so should I try to gain now by eating a lil more, or just let nature step in?  I want to be at about 125-130.  I am very short, and petite.    All my blood work is good, I just do NOT want to get big again.  Does anyone else out there know how I feel?  I have tried for 20 years to lose, and now I have to gain?  Pretty impossible to fathom.  Thanks for listening!

man i understand exactly how you feel.

i actually dont think that the weight your at is bad for someone your height.  as long as you are healthy that is what is important.

im 5'4 and weight about 145 now, my lowest was about 142.

i would give things some time after your TT, which was recent and see if your weight settles into a groove.

just eat what you should and stay healthy, that  should be everyones top concern

hugs, jacki

47 3 yrs out 3 grand kids, one on the way. 5'2" petite too. Went down to 113 and now am sitting at 133-132 lbs.  work out 4 days a week with kung fu. Watch carefully what I eat, and did so when I was 115. My body naturally went up, but I also gained muscle. My clothes size has not changed significantly.  Still am size 4 depending on type of clothes.
don't eat sugar, supplement with protein, exercise.
Kudos to you on the weight loss!!!

Now this is totally just my opinion . . . do not try to gain weight.  You are just a year post-op.  I'm not saying some bounce-back weight is inevitable--because some people escape it--but it is so very common.  I just think it's important to keep eating healthy and, as you said, let nature take its course.  IMO, your weight sounds great for your height.  I think it almost always take awhile for people to get used to the way we look after the huge weight loss, and I know it takes our bodies awhile to adjust.  (Even if you stay the same weight, your body may look better--not "too skinny"--as time goes by.)

Congrats on your wonderful success!

Always,
Jo

I am 38, and almost three years out.  My lowest was 145 and now I am 159.  I got pregnant at 10 months out when I was at my lowest.  I want to be about 130 again because I feel I looked my best.  With you and I being so petite it is not bad for us to be 120 but in my opinion I think I would look to skinny.  As long as you are healthy that is all that matters.  To feel like you are going to gain all your weight back is pretty much common across the WLS board.  We all have a hard time forgeting how horrible we felt fat so now that we are feeling better we worry about going back.  Just stay on track!  Eat what you should, vitamins, water you know the drill.  You will be fine.  Have a great day and God bless, Penni

I'm almost 5 years out and you sound kinda like me. Here's my story in a nut shell.
I'm 4'10" and large frame. I got down to 114 I felt fine and lookd fine. BUT both my PCP and WLS doc wanted me to GAIN some. Well I got back to 120 and everyone was fine with that. Then I got lazy and gained to much, I was back up to 142 at one point.  Now I'm at 132 and my body likes it there.  I still would really like to get back to 124-118.
SOOOOOOOOO my advice is to for right now just keep doing what you are doing and eat right don't try to lose and don't try to gain.  Your body will chose where it wants to be in the end.
Good Luck,
Robin

4'10" - 47 I'm short but not petite and I will weigh more than a 5th grader
Start weight 220

Hi Kathleen,

I am right where you are.  I had my surgery just a little over a year ago.  I am 45, 5'1" and I am down 155 lbs.  I surpassed my goal by 14lbs. They say I should be about 130 for my height, but am 146 at the present moment.  I believe am about 136-140 because of the extra skin I carry on my legs.  Everyone is telling me I shouldn't lose anymore weight.  I agree with them.  I am not going to worry about gaining weight as long as I continue to eat right and excersize.  I will worry about it when it happens.  I think that I would look terrible at 130lbs.  As long as I stay between 140 and 160lbs, I will be happy.  I stress myself out anymore about my weight I just take one day at a time.  If you have a goal that you would like to be, then don't worry about what other people think you should be.  Good-Luck!!!!  I pray you continue to have a healthy and successful journey!!!!
