Can you stand another cal cit question??
I understand that the labeling on the calcium citrate bottles or packages can be deceiving b/c the amount readily absorbed depends upon how much of it is elemental. So a couple of the forms I was taking, as it turns out, are not great--unless I want to take it every 2 hrs. around the clock in order to get enough "elemental" in!
What I have in front of me right now is the Bluebonnet brand of Liquid Calcium Magnesium Citrate. I've taken it in the past and recently returned to it. I love that it's liquid, that it's cheaper than Tropical Oasis, and that it tastes decent. The stats are as follows for a serving (2 Tbls.):
Calories 10
Total Carbs 3 g
Vit D3 (cholecalciferol) 800 IU
Calcium Citrate--elemental 1200 mg
Magnesium (citrate, aspartate)--elemental 600 mg
My question is this: the amount of elemental cal cit almost seems too good to be true; can this really mean that the entire 1200 mg is elemental??
In comparison, the Tropical Oasis Liquid Calcium Magnesium contains (among other things) 1200 mg of cal cit; however, it indicates it is 21% elemental (in other words, only about 250 mg is elemental). For the mag cit 100 IU, it indicates 16% elemental.
Any input is appreciated!
Always,
Jo
I have both products in my fridge, so I had to go peep the labels again.
You are right, it does seem almost too good to be true. I tend to go way over on calcium just to be sure. I use bot te Tropical Oasis, the Lifetime, and then a bunch of UpCald, and Osteo-D for good measure.
I don't have an answer for you, but I hope someone chimes in here.
