Hi Everyone,

First of all congratulations to all you wonderful "losers".  You guys are doing an awesome job.  One of the toughest things for me has been losing weight & keeping it off.  I have gained close to 20 lbs. from my lowest weight, I'm really concerned that I'll end up where I started, especially since I had a car accident & I'm not able to work out every day due to back pain.   I have not lost my motivation but I've lost my perseverance.  I'll do good for a few days, lose a couple of lbs. then gain them all gain + a few more.  I know protein shakes are great but I can't stand them anymore.  My question is this:  Do you think if I add fruits to the shakes I'll still lose?  I've heard from day 1 to stay away from fruits because of the sugar content, but I can't think of anything else to disguise the protein flavor!  Thank you soooo much for your feedback, any suggestions greatly appreciated.  God bless you all....

When I use protien shakes, I choose Low Carb Slimfast. I find them much more tolerable and my Nut said that they are fine for me to use.

There is a lot of really good and bad information that comes through here.  I'm over 3 years out and average 2 shakes a day,  In the morning I load it up with fruit.  I use 20 onces of cold water a splash of low fat soy milk a couple of scoops of plain yogurt and a HUGE handful of frozen fruit with a scoop of Gold Whey protein.  With that said I also work out 4  x's a week.  Back in June I had surgery and was unable to do any lifting and stuck to the same pattern and lost 5 lbs (which I know was muscle mass).
Taking into consideration your back injury you should work with a professional to establish a routine that you can do while you are on the mend.
You nailed the problem on the head when you mentioned motivation.  My motivation is knowing when I do eat I'm not counting calories as I know I'm burning through-out the day with the muscle that I am building.
Life style change is essential to success when dealing with weight gain.  Good luck.

try achieveone, from ibariatric.com or bariatriceating.com.  Also american sports chocolate fudge is really good, and chocolate whey stack (vitalady.com).  The other choice is unflavored protein.

Have your tried using this combo...I use dannon light and fit fruit yogurt 4oz and add in unflavored protien powder and about 1/2 cup lf milk and mix up. That is how I start my day and I enjoy this drink and cannot taste the powder.

Be sure you are getting in enough protien and if you can tolerate it, eat dense protien to help fill you up and keep you full, then have vegetables, and other "good carbs. Follow the no drinking rule nothing 20 minutes before or after food. Berries are a good low calorie fruits to consume but remember everything on moderation.

Wishing you all the best

Sher

Have you tried Toriani or Davinci SF syrups?  I think they really change the flavor.  There's no problem with fruit, but you also might want to try the fruit syrups. They com in Peach, Lemon, Lime, Watermelon, Strawberry and many others.

I usually end up eating some fruit daily and it hasn't been a problem for me~I don't overload on it, but I'll generally have a banana or some strawberries and I enjoy them! I know some people do have a lower sugar tolerance and have to really do low carb so they steer clear of fruit~I guess it just depends on the person. I'm glad to hear you havn't lost your motivation~that's half the battle right there!! Good Luck and keep us posted!!!!
