been a long time.. advice pls
it's been a long time since I have posted.. I get on here every now and then and read other peoples posts.. I am 3 years post op...
I was not 100lbs overweight but I had several co morbidities.. Thank God I have no more health problems and feel good.. I do notice now that I can eat anything with no problem. There are times during the month that I do crave things that I never usually eat, and that is scary. I've gained about 8 lbs and I feel very depressed about it. I excercise 6 days a week, to include Curves work out and also do ZUMBA classes which is high impact aerobics which I love.
I tried the 5 day pouch diet several months ago and lost about 3 lbs.. I've been reading other peoples posts who have gone thru this and have even considered taking some kind of diet supplement. I guess what I want is to hear from you guys with some advice..
I am thinking of going back to the beginning, protein and liquids only.. I guess I must be pms'ing because I am feeling really down.. Unfortunately I am going thru pre menopause so I have no idea when I'll get my period

thanks to everyone!

Congratulations on your 3 year anniversary! 8 pound gain is not too bad, you can get that back off. I would recommend tracking your intake one of any free web sites like fit day.com, spark people or the daily plate. Going back to basics eating protien first then vegetables, fruit and whole grains. Be sure to follow the rules of not drinking 30 min before or after eating and get in plenty of sugar free liquids throughout the day.
You have done great and by facing and correcting things now before they get really out of hand is the smart thing to do.
Wishing you all the best.

Thanks so much for your input, it makes me feel soooooooooo much better knowing I'm not alone and that is why I come to this site to get others opinion. You're absolutely right, I need to focus on eating right, rather than just eating whatever when I'm hungry.. shame shame on me!!!
I do have a hard time with veggies, I'm not a big fan of them, but I love plain salads..
Thanks again for your reply.
I will keep everyone posted on how I'm doing.. You guys make me feel so much better.

Thanks so much for your reply. You're absolutely right, maintenance isn't easy.. I do feel down about my weight, and I am an emotional eater.. Right now things are stressful in my life and I notice that I begin eating whatever even if I"m not really hungry. Yesterday is when I said to myself "I need to stop!!" this is going to get me back to 218 lbs, NO WAY!!!
I totally agree with NOT taking any diet supplements, I guess I just wanted others opinions on that..
I desperately need to detox my body, and I will certainly try to track my food/excercise. At least I have not stopped excercising which I love to do..
Thank you again for your input.. and I'll keep everyone posted!

Hi Monica!
I'm only 13 months out, but started liquids yesterday. I need to give myself an opportunity to step back and cut out the crap that I've allowed into my diet. Believe it or not, fruit is actually a huge downfall for me. Some will judge me for using this method, but I'm absolutely okay with the 5 day pouch test. I'm still getting in all of my protein, vitamins, water and exercise - so what's the big deal? I haven't been one of the perfect post-op patients and this helps keep me on track.
I'm saying all of this to let you know that you aren't alone. Sometimes we need a detox to get back on track. Sometimes experiencing the detox, remembering what we went through to have WLS, etc is enough to give us the motivation to stay on track. We aren't perfect. Some people are - I'm not. I wouldn't encourage ANY post-op to use diet pills, but getting back to basics is where we find success.
Do what you need to do and those 8 pounds will come right off!
The last 2 weeks I have been eating lots of meat, cheese, almonds and things like that. I haven't had a carb in that time. I have lost 2 pounds. I am determined to keep up with the better eating habits. I decided to eliminate all breads and limit myself to one pasta per week.
I thought it would be really hard to get back to doing these things but it wasn't. I actually feel much better and am proud that I have lost the weight I did and plan on getting back to my goal weight again.
Best of luck! You are not alone. And feel free to contact me for any support or to "complain" to me. I can be a good listener!
In the evenings I usually end up craving sweets, and like I previously mentioned this pms during premenopause sucks!!!!.... Boy do I wish I was one of those people who can't handle sugar..

Congratulations on the weight loss.. anytime you see the scale going down its an accomplishment I KNOW.. Keep up the good eating habits.. I will begin TODAY!!!
take care and keep on losing!!!!
Monica
So Getting back to basics is what I need to do..
