Wanted to Eat The House Down

Ok, I have several issues going on.  I hope someone might be able to enlighten me.

1.  I have Mirena, got it about 5 mos ago.  I don't have heavy periods, now I dont even bleed.  I did have cramps a little this weekend, have been bloated, MIGHT have been time for my period but I don't know as I didn't keep track.  (I know Im' not pregnant though)

2.  I just went on Lexapro a few weeks ago.

3.  I'm now almost 2 yrs out and think my desire for food might have returned.

I felt this weekend like I could have eaten the house down!  Yesterday was really bad, even though I ate too much at lunch, a few hrs later I wanted to eat again!  It is scaring me.  Is it that I could be on my time of month, when you crave stuff?  Or is it due to the lexapro as I just started that?  Or is this normal for the "want to eat" feelings come back at 2 yrs out?  OH LORD!  I am scared of myself.

I think it could be any of those things or the combination of all of them. I go thru phases of this too and I hate it! Its scary and discouraging, but I try to do my best to still make good choices thru all of it in hopes that I won't do too much damage. On a positive note, the phase always ends and things get back to normal eventually. Hang in there and do your best!

I agree with Tracy, it could be any one or a combination of all of them.  As for the want to eat feeling, I got mine back around 2 years and still was able to control it most of the time.  This past year has been tougher.......thankfully I go through spells where food doesn't appeal to me so I've been able to keep my weight in my personal range.

Good luck!

Hormones and new medications can mess anyone up.  Your post and the responses scare me - you guys talk about the "wanting to eat" feeling coming back at two years post op - MAN, I woke up at exactly 6 months post-op starving.  It's been a battle since that day and I don't always win.  It scares me to think where I could be a year from now.

Lexapro made me very bi-polar and unhappy. I switched to wellbutrin a few months ago and feel much less cranky and anxious.

It's just a fact that most people will have their desire for food return. The hope is that by the time it does you've learned the lessons and know how to eat correctly. Just keep reminding yourself to log your food and stick to your plan.

Sometimes, you just want to "eat the house down" and it's hard to ignore that. Try to distract yourself with a simple hobby (origami, knitting, drawing, writing...etc.) or do what I do and only keep non-trigger foods in the house. That way, if you do slip, at least it'll be a banana and not a banana cream pie.

Hang in there---I turn into a chocolate monster around that time of the month. Thank God for NSA fudgesicles and chocolate protein cupcakes.

Thanks to all of you who posted...  and for those who wanted to post but didn't have an answer.  It is my period, thank heavens!  I am writing it down this minute in my calendar so that in another few weeks, I will know for sure what this is!!!  I don't keep up with my periods too well... I just figure when it comes, it comes.   But I am not eating everything in site...

I can't chart my periods anymore, because the intervals keep changing--- but I get this insatiable hunger too-- and it scares the crap out of me---and the next day, blammo, time of month. On those days, I switch my foods so I am eating lots of small snacks, and less salt  to reduce the bloating. I try to toss a lil' chocolate in there, too.

I'm late to reply...but wanted to say that after about two years is when I got my hunger back...but it was mild...At 3 years it grew a little more like normal...But only around meal times...Before it was easy to forget to eat...Now I get that hunger that tells me..."um, hello darlin,' it's been three hours, let's eat, girl!"  It was a little scary at first...but what's worse than that is my period makes me crave carbs and carbs make me crave more carbs!  But the weirdest thing of all is....even if I eat the house down for three days prior to my TOM...I don't gain an ounce...If I did that off my TOM forget it!  I'd have to work my butt off! That, I don't get.  So I stopped worrying, but it still amazes me just how much I can eat during that time because I feel like I am starved!

So you are not alone! It drives me crazy and I always know when it's coming just from that....
