Eating issues and questions
Ok I don't post often but I'd like a little insite. Lately I just haven't felt like eating. I mean I know I should but I just don't want to. I'll look at the clock and realize oh yea I guess I should eat something. But I don't want too. I haven't lost anymore weightt and I'm staying within 5 pounds, You know that fun bouncing thing we do. well I didn't think this was really an issue until one of my co-workers shared her concern. she said she noticed I wasnt' eating as much and that she didn't want me to wither away. Has anyone else had this issue. and should I really force myself to eat if I'm just not hungry?
Yes, this is normal even after 8 years, this happens to my husband. He had a gastric by-pass May 2000. He weighed 467 and has kept to his 230 for 6 yrs. I have to get after him to sometimes to eat. I also make available items that he can reach and eat quickly. Things that are good for him and that have a high protien content.
If you prepare ahead of time and have a variety on hand, that's easy to reach, when you get these feeling. I try to have something like smoked salmon and cream cheese or tuna fish and plenty of crackers on hand.

you are early out....but you must have at least 3 protein shakes a day and your vitamins and water. Don't skimp there. Your food portions are small right now, and of course you won't want to eat. That is what the surgery is all about. But do what is needed...don't skimp because your body will leach from your muscle and bones and you will pay for that later.
Hang in there.....it will get better!

You're right - we're always learning and that what is great about the surgery and just life in general.
On those days that you don't feel like eating, have a minimum that you do anyway. Make sure to get in your protein even through a protein drink, protein shake or protein supplement of some sort. Also, get in your water, minimum of 64 ounces. Lastly, of course, take your vitamins.
If you're not eating much due to not being hungry, just make sure you get the necessities in of protein, water and vitamins.
Listen to your body. It is always right.

I try to stick with an eating schedule, but I definitely go thru phases of this~the flip side is I go thru phases of wanting to eat too much also! Just be sure to keep your protein intake up and get your fluids in and you should be fine. I think its "funny" when others around us get "worried" that we're not eating properly~is it truly concern? jealousy? what? I guess it depends on the person and their motives for the comment.

I think it goes in cycles. Don't worry about what others say...how is your body doing? Are you getting enough protein in? If not, supplement with shakes. How are you labs? Are your vitamin levels OK? Some people just say things because they are used to seeing us as obese people instead of "normal" folks. Just stay healthy and listen to your body.

With the DS: there is no stoma, so no stoma strictures; there are no limitations (other than volume) against drinking before, during or after meals; 80% of ingested fat is malabsorbed; 98.9% of type II diabetics are CURED of this devastating disease, with data showing stable cure over 10 years out; there is the best average weight loss and most durable (average 76% excess weight loss going out 10 years) of all of the bariatric surgeries. That's why I had a DS!
