Hi Lisa,

Did you ever here of the 5 Day Pouch Test?  Ask some of the other memebers about it, somehow it is supposed to get you back on track.  I am not there yet in my journey, I am still losing because I am only a little over a year out.  Remember the surgery is a tool, use it too, continue to lose or maintain your weight.  If you are gaining it must be because you are going back to your old eating habits.  Remember the only way to stop this is too change what you are doing, the surgery can't do it without you.

yep 5daypouch test..I highly recommend it....just did it myself, it basically brings you back to the basics of eating right. You get full and feel fuller longer and it breaks that carb craving. Its worth a shot...go to 5daypouchtest.com check it out...good-luck!

If you are really seeking something that you can use for the long term, I highly recommend that you read this http://thewagonplan.wordpress.com/
It works and helps your body burn the fat off, and run more efficiently. Several people on OH are using it with great results.
Best of luck, you can do it!!!

 nice new pic Valena!
I contacted James about the wagon plan and he had a post yesterday on how to measure and get a more accurate calorie intake amount for each person.  For me its at least 1250 a day and 1400-1500 if I work out 3-4 times a week.

To the original question: back to the basics. protein, fruit, vegetables, and no white carbs, no sugars. get exercising.  to to myplate.com and chart what you eat everyday, and get into an accountability group. you gained because you ate more calories than you needed, you ate foods you shouldn't have.
Ok, so don't beat yourself up over it. You're here...and that shows food doesn't have a control over you and you can break this and get back down!  So we're cheering you on. You CAN do this. Just go back to the basics !

Lisa,

Like the other posters, I would suggest a five day trial run, first two days of nothing but protein drinks and then slowly bring in soft foods, as if you had your surgery yesterday.  If that becomes impossible and you are not able to do it, then perhaps you could talk to your doctor to check the pouch.  I would definitely give it a chance for five days before resorting to medical help, but your doctor will be the best judge.  They are here to help us (most of them).  Missy

I regained about 40.......I did not do any pouch test or anything.....I went to the gym and busted my butt and in 8 weeks lost 20 pounds and 20 inches allover. It can be done however you see fit  to do it.

I altered my meals and worked out like crazy...... I was doing two hours of cardio a night and had a personal trainer for weights.........feel much better but fighting the last 10-20 I would like to lose.....you can get back on track and yes the pouch test does help some but I have also seen some who it did not help.

You also should include some weight lifting not just cardio on a machine.......treadmills are not that great....try the elliptical or stair master. I do all of them except the treadmill and I also do a spin class.....you burn more calories on the elliptical as opposed to the treadmill.......

I am not tooting my own horn by no means but I am taking classes to become a personal trainer. So yeah you need the weights and also you body gets used to certain routines so you may need to add a different type of cardio.......

dont give up and dont jump into a revision with out first changing bad habits....it takes discipline, will power, change of habits and determination......it is going to be harder to lose the regain for some......I am 7 yrs post op.......its tough.........but it can be done

good luck

Good Luck Donna.....you have just taken the most important step......you started the ball rolling and have admitted something needs to be done...........you admitted you have a problem that needs to be dealt with.......GREAT WORK!!!!!!!

So many people think there is a quick fix....if that was the case no one would be fat.  Once we have been blessed with this tool we must not abuse it.......follow the rules........if we fall off the wagon we are human pick yourself up and get on track.....

exercise is key......burn more than you take in......be consistant.....be accountable...keep a journal of you food and exercie and water intake..............

we get comfortable in our lives and stop being accountable......how many of us over 5 yrs post op still measure our food?? I dont.......I drink coke......I eat too much some days......some days I dont eat enough......forget to take my supplements........its called life.....it happens and we get busy and comfortable and take for granted the second chance at life we were given. So what happens next???? You take control......go back to basics...if that means with a pouch test or with a dietician or just cutting back and eating right......thats what you must do.

We are not cured of obesity.......we are survivors...........it is up to each one of us to stop the cycle. Never say "x amount of pounds lost forever" it can and will come back sometimes with a vengeance too.....

Good luck to all of you.......

Hi Lisa,

I agree with Tammy!

Exercise  is the key to losing the weight and keeping it off. So many GBS patient focus on eating only and exercise is thrown to the side of the road.  I workout 7 days a week. I love group fitness. I was able to reach my goal and maintained by doing 2 to 3 hours a day of group fitness:

Body Step
RPM (spinning)
Body Pump
Hip Hop Abs
Boxing
Personal Training
