hello,
I'm over 4 years out, and have consistenly been gaining weight for the past two years.  The time to stop-  is NOW.  I need help, encouragement, accountability, anything to get me on track.  1st let's say I'm a very social person, so I go out quite a bit.  After WLS i did not drink alcohol, and still had a great time.  Now Im back in my old habits of enjoying too  many empty calories.  On top of that I travel for a living, so many nights on the road = dining out/****tails.  I have gained 40+ pounds, and really want to start over with a new healthy lifestyle.

problem is I know exactly what to do to lose weight and be healthy, I just can't seem to stick to it for more than two days.

Thanks for your support!
Kim

Hi Kim! I know what you mean~its easy to know what to do, but hard to follow thru with it. It sounds like you have everything you need to successfully lose any unwanted weight gain, so I know you CAN do it!!!! I find journaling my food/exercise at thedailyplate.com to be extremely helpful. When I'm completely honest, its eye opening, LOL!!! Just get back to basics, push protein first, drink plenty of low cal liquids, no drinking w/meals and 30/30before and after meals, take your vits and exercise. With your busy travel schedule, its probably very difficult to plan meals ahead, but I find that to be very helpful too. Good Luck and keep us posted on your progress!!!

Kim,
I too am making a new commitment; I actually started several days ago (shock--didn't wait til  Mon. for a change!!).  I'm 4 yrs. post-op the end of this month--was the "model" wls patient who followed all the rules, lost 140 lbs. w/ very little drama, was committed to almost-daily exercise, and thought at long last that I had learned how to eat to maintain.  Then . . .

At about 20 mo. out, I started messing w/ success.  Just a little . . . then a little more . . . well, we all know the drill.  I forgot I'm not "normal" and never will be; I will always have to be mindful--every day--that I am a food addict.

I have gained 35 lbs.  I've fiddled around all summer gaining & losing a little bit, but I just couldn't stick w/ it (no excuses, but honestly, it has been a summer w/ unusual cir****tances full of stress).  Now, I'm ready.  I am not doing anything radical--just doing what I know to do--get back to basics w/ my food & portions, start exercising again, and journal my food on www.thedailyplate.com.

I have a lot of motivation--for one thing, a class reunion this fall; for another, a daughter's wedding next summer; but really, I mainly just want to feel good physically & mentally like I do when I'm on track.

We can do this & can support each other & anyone else who is biting the bullet and digging in again!  I feel for you having to travel and deal with all these issues, but . . . you did it before, and you can do it again!

Thanks for your post!
Jo

Always,
Jo

Thanks ladies, i will check out thedailyplate.com, and have committed to being healthy!!!  It's all in my head, I just have to make it a couple of weeks, and it gets easier.

I too have motivation.
1)  My winter pants are way too tight, and it's coming up fast!
2)  I'm going to Cabo, MX in October, and I have this realllly cute lavender suite, so I need to fit in it and many other summer type clothes.
I'm covering both seasons!

Would love to stay in touch and keep each other motivated!!!

What is your current weight, I saw your blog for May but nothing since.  Just wondering where you are on that goal, and once you start committing how long it takes for you to get control again?

Thanks

Hi AmyBeth,
Right now I'm at 240, so I'm not near the May goal.  I feel 100% committed now, and am going to make it happen.  Wow, if I keep telling myself that I will make it happen.  once I committ I should be able to meet the 230 goal fairly fast I would think.

Thanks so much!

It is SO hard to stick to isn't it? And I DO feel better when I do it but that still doesn't help much. It's so silly! I'm actually kind of getting back to how it used to be...if i don't eat right I'm actually getting nauseated, which is a good thing I guess! I'd love to have a support buddy if anyone wants one too! The nighttime is just kicking my butt for eating. It undoes the whole freaking day! :-( I had the 'problem' with alcohol too, way too much partying. I haven't had any now in the last 3 weeks either. I'm not saying never, just saying occasional would be okay! (IF I remember to do some extra exercise for the calories!) Best of luck to you!

I think we've all been there.  After easily maintaining my weight for four years, my family moved and the transition was not as easy as I thought.  I regained 30 plus pounds.  I too suffered from the "thinking I'm cured" and relaxed into old habits and before I knew it - bam, 30 pounds.

Traveling compounds it because you don't have the control with food choices and preparation that you do when you're at home.  Plus, it is unstructured time and environment.  I've worked with a wls post-op that travels a lot too and she regained weight attributed in large part to travelling.  What worked for her is that when she is at home, she's in the "losing" mode of eating.  When away, she acknowledges that her choices and availability will be difference so she stays in the "maintaining" mode of eating.

I lost it thankfully but it was difficult.  Much more difficult than the first time around from having surgery.  WE CAN DO THIS.  We did it once so we can do it again.  We know what to do so we need to make the all-important promise to ourselves and do it.

I'm having a health challenge myself right now.  I have a large herniated disc in my neck so my activity level is zero.  I've put on a few pounds just from not being able to be active.  So, I'm having to relook at what I eat to compensate for the lack of activity.  I know it is temporary but I must adjust.

Being on the WLS Grads Board helps a lot.  I appreciate all of you and your posts.  They are very motivating and inspirational.

Cathy,
Wow, that herniated disc sounds painful, I hope you are able to get that healed.

Thanks for your advise, I think maintaining when I'm on the road, and losing when I'm at home sounds like a great way to try to lose some of this weight I've put on.  I am going to try that.  Plus now that Summer is almost over I tend to be a bit healthier, because there are less parties, and social events.

Thank you for your advice!
