i am almost ten months out of RNY and am curious to know how many calories other WLS patients go through on a regular basis.  i do anywhere from 800 to 1000 daily but i feel that its kinda low.  i mean, when people go on diets, don't they eat like 1500 cal daily?!?!?!?!

In my opinion your eating why to few calories.  I try to get in about 1200-1500 calories a day and over 70 grams of protein.  If you eat to little calories your body my go into starvation mode and you will not lose any weight.  Hope all goes well for you today and God bless, Penni

I looked for your stats but they aren't there.  Have you made your goal yet?  What does your doctor say?  Are you exercising?  It really has to do with how much you still have to lose, and whether you are exercising.

We aren't metabolically like other people any more, so sometimes we have to eat less.

I eat 900 calories a day-- I am still trying to lose. I don't experience any ill effects as a result of my calorie count. I will add calories as necessary as I approach a lower weight.

thanx for responding.  first off wtg on your weight loss! thats awesome.  question: why do you want to add calories as you get thinner? it seems we have lost bout the same in roughly the same time period.  like you, i dont experience any ill effects from consuming 900 cals/day.  i do drink like a gal. of h20 per day, how bout you?
any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.
thanks again,
pete

900 calories is ridiculously and probably unsafely low for a man, unless you are very very short. It's quite low for me, and I am a small framed female. My Sig Ot, who had surgery only three months ago, eats a modest 1200 calories and gets in close to 100g of protein a day-- I would think anything less is probably dangerously low.

I need to increase calories as I become more active and approach my goal weight so I don't get too far underweight. I am getting to the point where soon I may need to start thinking about that-- I have a lot of extra skin which I hope to have removed via plastics.

If I read your profile correctly, it looks like you are male and weigh just under 200 pounds.  You've lost half your body size!  WTG!

I agree with you, it seems like your calories are too low!  I would eat more, but also exercise more to improve your metabolism.

I've never understood why we require so few calories when we are suppose to have malabsorption!  I just had my BMR tested.  My caloric intake is suppose to be 2050 calories before I add in extra for exercise.  Crazy!

thanx for the feedback.  i know my stats seem EXTREMELY CRAZY, but i feel great and continue to lose, albeit one to two lbs per wk.  as far as exercise goes, i am in the process of "bulking up"
and am considering adding creatine to my workout routine.  thanks again for responding.
