More on weight gain, has this happened to you?

Okay so I'm trying to get back on track. It's been 2 weeks today. I did well my first week, losing over 10 lbs (only because half of it was water because I hadn't taken my water pill for 4-5 days) and this week I've GAINED almost 3 lbs!!!! I've cut calories so with exercise my total calorie count is 800 or less. How the hell does that happen??? I'm so pissed! BUT if I remember right, I think this has happened to me before after taking a break from exercise, you gained the first couple to few weeks when you restarted exercising then it went down? Has this happened to anyone else? I don't really believe in starvation mode at all because that's how we lost the weight in the first place. If there is no calories eaten then your body has to get them from somewhere and burn them, common sense. Anyway I just needed to vent. I get so pissed at my body. When I do fitday it still tells me I can eat like 1800-2000 cals to maintain my GOAL weight. What a joke! I'd be a fat  little piggie again in no time! Does this weight loss surgery mess your body up this much that you can't relose the weight with out eating 400 calories again? Ugh! The only thing I can think of is my calories, although low, were just from regular food-not 100 percent protein. I was eating fruits and whole grain light cal. bread, etc. I'm going to try this week to do totally protein only-meat or eggs. Not sure how that would make a difference but that's basics and we'll see right? If anyone has any tips or anything I'd love to hear them. I'm back to classes in a little less than 3 weeks and that ups the stress, makes eating difficult, and cuts drastically down on any extra time for extra exericse to lose then.

I do believe in starvation mode. I know that is how I messed up my metabolism in the first place. Of course, immediately after surgery my calories were close to 800 but I was healing and not exercising much. Now I eat about 1500 a day to maintain, so to lose would eat about 1200. What about going to see a nutritionist and getting a recommendation? 800 calories seems like its asking for trouble. Everyone's different though, maybe your body is just super efficient!
If you took a water pill last week your body is probably trying to stay hydrated now which could account for the weight gain. Also, I have read that when you stress your muscles they retain water to hea so maybe your exercise program is causing some initial gain.

Starting weight: 262   Current weight: 152.2 Goal weight: under 155 - I keep going over - UGH!!!
weeks maintaining goal: 1

Maybe that is part of it. I really don't know. I was eating about 1000-1200 cals ...I just was burning off 400-600 daily so it most definitely should result in weight LOSS!  I haven't seen a nutritionist since WLS. I will check that out and also with my DR if my body keeps responding in this way, because something has to be up!

Thanks!

I agree that the gain is mostly due to water. I think a better judge is how clothes fit and how your weight is perhaps on a weekly basis. Does it fluctuate. For instance, sometimes my feet and legs swell for what ever reason. Usually that will add on some pounds...but I know the cause. Does that make sense?
With eating there has to be a balance, and yes, we do need the protein. I always try to get at least 60 in a day, and that is from shakes which is in addition to what I eat. I have a fair amount of muscle on me and I work out with kung fu 3-4 times a week. Stick to the rule, protein, fruits and vegetables. Get your water in and most importantly your vitamins.
Your weight will stabalize and get to a good point, you just have to be patient!

Thanks! I was always getting 60g or so of protein but I'm going to try cutting out fruits and veggies. That's basically all I have left to cut out that would make a difference??? Hopefully it does drop back down to where it was previously or at least at the weight I would be okay with! :-)

it happens to me everytime I start exercising hard & DONT increase my calories. My body refuses to allow me to lose unless I eat atleast 1200 calories daily.   If i cut back calories  I start putting on weight & fast.  Sounds odd but true

Good luck  dont give up   but i would try increasin to atleast 1000

I was eating about 1200 cals, just burned them off to down around 800...so try to eat 1800 cals???? I'm for sure not stoping the gym time...well I can cut the cardio down to 3x a week instead of every day which is what I'll have to do when I start classes again, but I thought this would give me a heads up on the weight loss!

800 calories isn't near enough.
I have been doing James' Wagon Plan and lost 6 pounds since starting it on 7/24/08. It works well for post-ops, allows you to eat, and  you never feel hungry. I have also started food journaling again...as much as I hate it, I have to admit it truly is effective. I am eating around 20% under my BMR and losing again. You may want to try it. I have just started back to exercising myself, within the last couple of months. Always been my biggest hurdle. I even bit the bullet and got a gym membership finally...I know I don't want those pennies floating out of my pocket for nothing, ya know? I'll take any motivation I can get.

good for you.  I looked at his program, but it has so much carbs, and that adds weight for me.  Its hard to eat as much as he tells you to. Why do you think its working for you?

You don't truly eat a 'lot'...200-400 cals per meal, 5-6 per day. I don't know it backwards and forwards enough to really explain it to you...but from what I have read, I think it works because it keeps your blood sugar levels constant all through out the day. You are eating every 2-3 hours, so you don't have the first chance to feel hungry! I know it sounds crazy, but me, a carboholic, is living proof. You don't exceed 30g per meal, so your body doesn't have that to turn into fat. I know it is extremely counterintuitive, but in actuality our bodies need carbs.
