Long-term Grads (7 yrs plus?)
Thank you Paula and Michelle.
I love the idea of seeing some of Dr. Goodman's old patients on here - he was one of the first doing this type of bariatric surgery when I started.
And I haven't had (thankfully!) any sudden weight gain. I've hovered around the same weight (give or take a few pounds) for many, many years.... and that's with pregnacy, marriage, stress, excessive partying ;-) My recent change just has to do with the fact that I'm working out pretty regularly and would like the scale to reflect the hard work I'm doing at the gym!
Oh, and I forgot to mention that I now live in Scotland, so my hours may be a bit off :)
Kind regards,
Jessica

Yes, I used to be on Yahoo Grads too. I actually remember you! Vitalady was a very unique name and you used to post quite a lot of good info. Actually - just checked and I'm still a member of that group :)
Funny.
I don't think I'm in need of a revision (hadn't even thought of it!) but I'd be curious to see what's happening with folks this long out. I'm in the UK now, so I don't even have the same access/resources to the medical community for this procedure in the States.
Thanks again to all for the warm welcomes!!

i didn't found that list, btw. i was one of the original members, being a 1994. so, many are 10 yrs out now, have been on he list for 9 yrs.
but of course, many from my era, and some back in the 80's working on 2nd or even 3rd revisions.
They ARE the history of WLS.
not much pie-in-the-sky there. real people with real success or problems, real long term issues that there are STILL no studies on, or very primitive ones.......
but there it is, where the rubber meets the road in real life.
when i talk to pre-ops, i try to get them there BEFORE surgery, so they can guide themselves more accurately to replicatre or avoid the things they see in us oldies.

P.S. My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.
oh my name.
lol
the locals called me the vitamin lady or the protein nazi. I started in 1995, wasn't on line til 1998. so i used the vitalady strictly as an email handle. then it became attached to me as a person, then later, the business name.
none of it happened as ppl think, actually.
but yes, it was more of a nickname just from what the locals called me. our docs were all over the protein & vites back in the 90's, and stuff was impossible to find and no such thing as discounted, only full price. i had to go to 9 stores to find 7 things every month. miserable.
so i found it for myself only. then me 'n my closest WLS sibling. then 2 of us and my dh. then us 3 and some in our support group and so on.
i didn't wander on line until many years into what I was doing. i was astounded to find ppl NOT doing what we were doing. and now, a decade later, a very few clinics are starting to actually run most of the tests needed, and recommend tragically low doses of the incorrect forms, but it's better than it was in the 90's, for sure.
and since then, there have been hundreds of , er, similar endeavors. then later, the "wls specific vites", most of which aren't.
hmm, i guess I'm kinda the keeper of the history of post-op times, huh? lol

Hi Jessica,
Welcome back to OH. I had RNY on August 28, 2000 lost 101#. After the first year my visits to the boards tapered off as well and I became complacent, quit following rules...etc and ended up with a 42# gain by March 2005. This was also my first time actively trying to lose weight in years. I came back to OH for the inspiration, advice, hope and motivation needed to get back on track. With the help of OH and an incentive program at my work, I have since lost 30 of the 42# gain. Good luck with your workouts and and weight loss efforts. Glad to have you back!

Just wanted to say hello and welcome back...I'm at 4 1/2 years and had smooth sailing the majority of the time...until my 4th year labs came back and I realized that malnutrition is real and the further out you get does not mean the less work you have to do! I feel pretty much normal, except for all the vitamin bottles on my kitchen counter and the occassional sugar/carb overdoses that violently remind me that I had WLS surgery....How has your journey been? Any problems? You look fantastic...
