WLS vs. NO Additional Vitamins
Yes i have had the bone density test done. My Drs tell me that i am one of the fortunate ones that my body is in excellent shape. I would like to say that i do exercise regularly and i walk at least 5 to 10 miles every other day and if i do feel like something is not right, i go have it checked right then. I have not always been like that, but it took me a long time to get my head and body straight and i really try hard to stay on track. I went from 303 and a size 56 pants to 180 and a size 36 and 38 pants, from xxxl shirts to large and xtra large, depends on how they are made. I really try hard to live a healthy life now thanks to the surgery. Thanks to all of you and this sight. It keeps me motivated just reading some of the posts. keep in touch everyone, Bruce (i am still dealing with hanging skin, but can not afford to take care of that right now, but i can live with that)
if she is not having about 12 vials of blood drawn every few months (not annually), her levels can drop invisibly. As many ppl say their "labs are fine", but they only have a cbc, and don't actually see them with their own eyes. among us long termers, "fine" is kind of a bitter joke for: no one every really looked; the right tests were not run; patient never saw them; and so on
It doesn't mean the right labs were run or that anyone ever did more than file them.
So, tell her to pick which of these functions she wants to keep and I'll tell her which tests to run, which vites to take, in what form. If she doesn't want any of these functions, she is "fine". BTW, many ppl have some sorta desire to run themselves into the ground to get attention from grown kids or distant spouses or parents, I know! I've seen it too many times to deny it. Their eyes literally glisten with excitement that they are near death but little susie is flying home from China tonight! they don't grasp that some of the damage cannot be undone.
vit A - eyes, night blindness is first, then skin issues, then lack of immune
vit B12 & B1 look alike, brain damage, neurpoathy, tingling, burning, inability to walk. severe damage is never undone and a wheelchair and no job are the future for letting it get too far
many other b vites act like this, but these two are a sure thing to crash
vit C accompanies iron, but alone, it's an antioxidant, so builds immune, can help with bruising
vit D is bones, joints, teeth, helps calcium absorb, fights cancer, helps ease symptonms of fibro and ms and the whole list of autoimmune. final step is osteomalacia = rickets, so soft bones
vit E is hair, skin, nails, capillary walls (so heart health) and for men, all male function, whi*****ludes urinary, prostate AND toys
iron- delivers blood and oxygen to cells. folate helps the cells stay healthy when there is enough iron in them, but without folate and iron, the cells collapse, first brain damage, then the heart attacks begin
calcium is more than bones and teeth. keeps the heart and other organs working. that's why not enough calcium intake makes the body take calcium from bones and teeth to deliver to the heart and lungs. prioritizing, when you run out, heart stops
zinc aids protein intake, as well as being a helper to many other nutrients. doesn't take a lot, but it does take some
protein is the foundation. you can build a 6000 room mansion with every bell and whistle but without the foundation, it all crumbles to dust. first is regain, lost of muscle, skin tone, hair, nails, teeth, sunken skin look. then the edema starts at ankles and moves up the body as the edema fills the cells that should contain protein
So, that's as simple as I can make it on a laptop. there is a specific type and dose of vitamins and minerals for each person. generically, you can build a program per surgery type, customized to fit YOU, but after that, you build to fit the labs of each person.
The A, D, E, iron, calcium all have to be speific and protein has to fit a criteria, B12 has to be delivered unswallowed and so on.
but mainly, the mega list of labs is your report card on how well your program is working or not for you.
