About how many calories did you take in at a year out?

Trying to get an idea of where I should be....again! I've been feeling very snacky lately and very food obsessed-- at 900 calories a day-- and I am wondering if perhaps it's not enough. (I do light exercise but am not a gym rat--- yet.)

Hi Jupiter6,
I am 20 mos post op and my calorie intake depends on my level of exercise for the day.  I never exceed 1500 calories. You should be eating at least 1200 calories a day depending on your level of exercise.  If you're not eating enough protein and fiber you are going to get hungry.  I experienced that problem and couldn't figure out why I was snacking, and grazing and was alwas hungry.  Check with your Nut she should b increasing your calorie count.

I got increased to 1000 calories per day at my 6 month post-op follow-up appointment.

I called the office about 2 or 3 weeks ago and got them to okay an increase to 1200 calories per day (even though my 1 year post-op check-up is not until September 2) because I am getting to the point where I need to stop weight loss.

If I were you, I'd email/call your surgeon and see what he says.  (My NUT was only going to increase my calories to 850 at my 6 month post-op check-up.  Then my surgeon saw me and said "no, 1000".  So I figure he overrules the NUT since he's her boss afterall, so I listened to him!)

Neither my surgeon nor my nutritionist will discuss calories. They just say , "Eat when you're hungry and get your protein in." This is why I ask in the agora.

Based on my surgeon/NUTs plan it really depended on if you were still trying to lose, maintain and how much you worked out - my NUT basically said as you got further out its more of a 'guessing game'. At 1 year out I was eating 900-1100 calories and still losing. When I moved to maintenance they said 1000-1200 calories for life, if I kept losing add 100 calories at a time until I stopped.
However at my NUTs suggestion I had a metabolism test and found I needed to eat a minimum of 1400 to maintain and 1200-1400 to lose weight.

First visit to surgeon - 288 ~ bmi 45.1
2 week pre-op 252 ~ bmi 39.5
Total lost - 153 Since surgery - 117!
Goal weight - 155 (mine) 180 (surgeons)
Current weight - 135 (2020 I lost 10lbs due to dedicating myself to working out more and being in better shape)

1/14/2025 still maintaining 135 :-)

Extended TT, lipo, fat injections - 11/2011

BA/BL/Arm Lift - 7/2014

Scar revision on arms - 3/2015

HALO laser on arms/neck 9/2016

Thigh Lift 10/2020

Thigh Lift revision 10/2021

At a year out I was eating around 1200cals. I do keep a pretty strenuous workout schedule. I think as long as you continue to push protein first you won't overeat. I also think at 1yr out becoming "food obsessed" is VERY  normal. You've gone without for so long and now you're starting to be able to tolerate a variety of things and in a bit larger quantities.

Hey Shari - as I read this I find I am an exception to many of the other posts.  I eat anywhere from 1200 to 2000 a day - depends on teh day.  I am training for a half marathon at the end of August and I am VERYhungry for a coupleof days following my long runs.  On those days I eat more.  In general, I've eaten more this week.  I ran 8 miles on Saturday, ATE Sunday, ran again Tuesday  night and ATE again today.  Sometimes I am always hungry, sometimes I have no hunger.  I am still lsoing - only a pound or two a month now though.  I discussed this all with my NUT and she had me up my calories to make sure I was getting enough for my level of activity.
