HELP! REALLY SAD
I am almost 6 years out and I am having issues. I am gaining weight like crazy. I try to watch what I eat...most days...oatmeal for breakfast, veggies and fruite during the day for tweeners, or peanut butter crackers..soup or 1/2 sand for lunch, can't eat more than 1/2....sometimes no dinner or a piece of meat and veggies...I get my water in with no problem. But, my issues is I have gained 10 pounds in the last month, 50 pounds in the last 2 years. My whole body feels like it is swollen, especially my stomach. I have to fight with being constipated. I am taking stuff for that, some days it works some days it doesn't. I have a real tenderness in the lower part of my stomach, tender to the touch. I had a hernia repaired about 3 months following my RNY, I wonder if I could have another. I don't have the alien protrude like I did with that hernia.

You may need to see a doc for bowel obstruction. bloating and tenderness is not good, along with a history of constipation.
also, you are eating lots of carbs. peanutbutter crackers and oatmeal....I'd nix the white stuff and focus on protein, fruits and vegetables. Getting in at least 60 grams of whey protein drink a day in addition to what you eat (can't absorb all you eat remember this). That is why you have to drink it.
What about exercise?
We have a daily accountability. Try tracking your foods on fitday.com and journaling here with us each day for accountability. WE also have weekly friday weigh ins.
Call your doc, and keep us posted ok. You can get this under control Youwill have to stop some bad habits though, carbs and sweets......they got us the first time, and they tend to get us the second time too! Its not to late to fix th ings though....and we are here to cheer you on!

Sounds like you're trying to follow protocol as closely as possible. You may have another medical issue, and you may need to have a check up with your GP to see what might be wrong. Have you consulted your surgeon too about your wt gain? DAVE

Have you been having yearly follow ups with your surgeon or PCP? I suggest starting there and address the tenderness in your stomach - that is not normal... it could also be causing your constipation. I would consider getting a metabolism test to find out exactly how many calories you need, then work with a NUT on developing a good eating plan - it sounds to me like you are not eating enough and not sticking to a consistant diet, skipping dinner is not good - as stated above you should be focused on protein as well so possibly going back to doing 1-2 shakes in additional to your meals may be a good idea for now. I would work on eating 40% protein, 30% carbs and 30% fat to help you lose, as for calories that would be based off your metabolism test or surgeon/NUTs guidelines... the further out your get the more 'un-general' the guidelines get... in the beginning the guidelines surgeon/NUTs give work for everybody but as time passes what you need really depends on your lifestyle, your metabolism and how much (or little) you exercise.

I do try to follow what I am supposed to do as much as possible. But, as we all are, we are human and the ugly food monster rises and grabs me on occasion. I walk approx. 1 - 2 miles a day.... As far as my surgeon, I am so totally turned off on his office. I have been back there 3 times since my surgery. I feel and I know there are others on this board that will disagree with me and thats ok....the follow up care is not there. I went back to him at 3 months out with what looked like an alien growing and was told it was nothing...my pcp took onelook at it and said holy crap! thats a hernia...sent me right to my general surgeon and it was fixed within the week. I went back a cpl of years later withthe weight gain issue and uneainess in my upper stomach and saw the new associate of my surgeon and he sent me for a scope which showed all was ok, the doc that did the scope put me on Prilosec for inflammation. and the associate had me talk to the NUT which was the very first time for me to ever see a NUT, 5 years after surgery....I was basically doing and eating what she suggested....I know, I know some days I slip, but not always, after I do I try and kick myself in the seat of the pants and try again...but, this time it seems to be something else. I wil make an appt with my pcp and see what he says.It just seems like I am always going there. I do have bad bouts with low sugar and have to be careful with that. My levels are good except iron which I am on an iron pill 3x's a week and b12 shots once a month. Same vits as most...I will try again and see what happens...Sorry this is so long...I just feel I have no one to talk to about this that understands.
Thanks guys....
