Hiding food
I am almost 3 years out from surgery. Lately I have found that when I eat at home with my father, brother and daughter I am finding that I over stuff my plate even though I know I can't eat it. I put the rest away for a couple more meals for me and my daughter. It just annoys me when I cook or order out there is enough for leftovers but never happens because my father and brother eat for an army. I like to cook so there would be leftovers to take to work the next day but on the other hand sometimes I just cook enough for one serving each just for spite. It just really gets on my nerves how they eat everything in the house and then there is never anything left by the time I get to it. I find myself hiding food sometimes. Will this become a problem leading to weight gain for me?
I understand where you're coming from. My dh and 2 growing boys (11 and 7) and really put it away sometimes~although I have to admit that most of the stuff I eat they turn their noses up at, LOL! I just flat out say "please don't eat all of the strawberries in here b/c I want them for a snack tonite" and then I'll direct them to the bananas for example. Can you possibly ask them to save you some of whatever for later or mark a few containers with your name so they know you want it later?? I don't think that hiding the food will be a problem as long as its the good foods~I know its a problem for me when I start hiding the junk food so I can eat it later. Also, something that my husband said to me has stuck with me and I remind myself of it at times, he said "there's more at the store" and I remind myself of that whenever I"m tempted to overeat b/c its there and I like it and I want it............I can always get more later at the store!! Good Luck!!

Ok Tracy.....am I remembering correctly or are you recently married? I think when we used to do meet and greets in Altamonte you were dating? Am I remembering right? Hope I don't have you mixed up with someone else.....

You might have to resort to a "plan B". Plan A is to keep the leftovers in the fridge, but that doensn't seem to be working. I don't know if talking with them would be any good or not about the leftovers. My plan B would be to buy a small fridge ($69 type for a home bar, etc.) and put a pad lock on it. This way you could take your leftovers degisnated for your lunch, and lock it in this little fridge. Sounds drastic, but this may be your only solution, unless you can convince them of the fact you need some of the leftovers for your lunch at work. Good luck. DAVE

LOL. I have a friend who has a freezer in her garage and she keeps a lock on it. She keeps it full of her tasty diet food, since her family can eat whatever they want, but then they come after her stuff too. My kids are grown, but they bring their families over all the time and raid. I love, love, love to cook and I always end up with too much food, so it's usually OK that they steal it, but I'm like you, sometimes I meant to have a little left over for lunch and it disappears. Maybe you should just give your dears a good talking-to (even threaten them if you have to).
well. I have my own stash on the cupboard of food, and a special drawer in the fridge. I have separate foods that I use just for me because I can only eat certain food. Foods that I can't eat, I could care less how much others eat. sometimes I buy more expensive goods that are high in protein, or something I will eat, and I don't share it. I have to be more picky in the foods I eat. But eat my food.......GRRRRR!
I'd say you are normal, because I do this too. So we are normal or both weird!! lol!
Anyway, I don't think this will become a problem. Keep sticking to the basics and don't go off your eating plan.

I designated one of the crisper drawers in my refrigerator as a " do not eat my stuff" drawer. Any food including leftovers from dnner, take-out or restauraunt doggie bag that I wanted to save for myself would go into that drawer. I made sure that my family knew that the drawer was "off limits". It might seem like a strange solution but it worked for me. I agree that hiding food could eventually cause problems for you. Good luck finding a solution that works for you..

Doesn't seem like a problem to me. Actually when I fix a meal that I know I want to take to work as leftovers, I often dish up a portion in my microwave containers as I am serving the meal to my family so I know I will have what I want for the next day. Because there are times my husband will keep eating it just because it is there!

I get a little twinge of anger when I go shopping and buy something and my DH eats it all and doesn't even offer me any...But I shop so often and cook so much (more than I need to) I guess it just passes and I let things go...But your reminded me that I'm still mad that I bought some Ice cream( 2 for one deals) last week...I got my DH his Strawberry and I got some lactose free stuff to try for me...Ya know that man ate both half gallons before the week was over and never even offered me a taste? :::WHew:::I almost didn't make him dinner when I found out! LOL
So I totally TOTALLY get this and you have TWO MEN in the house? OY!!!! My son was like that too...That boy was a bottomless pit...And he is in the army now! They feed his hungry little butt! LOL Yeah....this is not a mind game you are playing on yourself that will lead to self sabotage...I wouldn't worry about that...But you might go out and get some containers that you can't see thru and a big roll of masking tape...Put YOUR left overs in them and write your s or your daughters name on the tape and wrap it around the container...Men are too lazy to pull off the tape to peek inside to see what it is...If they can see it...They might go to the trouble....LOL Unless they are just really hungry...They probably won't bother...If they do...start putting "throw away on :::last weeks date::::" and maybe that will deter them form eating it! LOL Or "daughters mold project for school" LOL
Been there.... done this! LOL
