I have tried the search and came up empty. I am 2.5 years out of surgery. I have lost about 200 punds and everything is going awesome except my smelly damp belly button. It gets worse after I have worked all day. I spent a week at the beach and it was fine the whole time come back to work and it stinks again. I need help. I would rather not have to go to the doctor for something I am sure hundreds of other people have experienced. What should i use in there?!

A bad smell usually means an infection.  I had that problem pre-surgery.  I made sure to dry it out really well after bathing then with a Q-tip dipped in peroxide I would clean it.  If it doesn't get better I would go to the Dr. as it may require antibiotics.
Good luck

Have you tried regular deodorants and/or powdering it??  I have the same issues but more with my panni flap.... I use wet wipes to keep it fresh throughout the day....

Good luck and congratulations on your success!

I've had that issue pre op and post op. I normally try to dry the belly button area with some tissue after bathing, but that doesn't always help. Once in a while, I lay on the bed, and pour al little hdyrogen peroxide into the area, and let it set for a couple of minutes. Then I dry with tissue as dry as possible. Dave

Ive always had a smelly belly button :-) I just keep it dry and qtip it out now and then, sometimes it gets red and irritated but that goes away on its own. I never addressed it with a Dr because I never saw a need personally. I found I had an umbilical hernia (via a CT scan for another reason) and read that my smelly belly could be due to that.

DrOz discussed this on Oprah.. I found the discussion link, but couldnt find the original - Im sure you can dig since it was one of the 'ask droz' episodes.

The Dr can help.  I had the same problem bc my belly button closes off so I have to clean it a lot.  He gave me a anti fungal creme to use when it gets bad.  If you do see you Dr and pln to have plastics in the future this documentation could help with approval.  Anyway take care... Jess

try using some Zeosorb powder (you can purchase this now over the counter)  It has an antifungal agent in it which will help the smell.

Hope that helps!

Okay I confess...This happens to me too. I was told it is a yeast infection....I get them when the area doesn't breathe well (With high waisted jeans or those spandex type polyester work out clothes and I sweat.  I noticed it happens sometimes when I get a bout of really bad gas too...So I think it might have something to do with an over growth of bacteria in the body...That's when I get out the probiotics, and eat yogurt...

Att he site itself ....Peroxide helps...but Alcohol kills it immediately if you can stand the sting...I have a high tolerance for pain and I know it will be healed completely by morning, so I just suck it up and use alcohol on a swab. Hold onto your socks though when you do it...It really stings! This happened to me much more often when I was obese and before my skin tightened...but all it takes is a sweaty day and no air to the area...and it still happens now and then...

Good luck...

what it is is a yeast build up.. you need a powder that you can get from the dr..
It is used for baby.. I cannot remember the name of it...
but ask you dr.. they will know...
It also works of the rash you sometimes get under the hanging skin.
