i am actually nauseous right now over how i let myself get out of control and regain 20 lbs!  nothing against the people who've had revisions, or who are considering them...i've just upset myself to the point that i'm sick that i might eventually need one if i don't regain some control here!  and i know it's my fault......everyday i say "yeah, i'm going to do the 5 dpt" or, "yeah, i'm going to have 2 shakes a day, and eat a sensible dinner."  and i have yet to do either of those things.  it's my mindset.  somewhere along the way, i fell off the wagon, it must've ran over me too when i fell off because now, i can't seem to get back up.  my beautiful size 10's no longer fit me....i have nothing to wear, because i donated all the fat clothes because i promised myself i would NEVER wear them again, and now, i'm 30 years old and running around in sweat pants and t shirts while my size 10 Gap jeans and NY& Company capris take up space in my closet and dresser.  i know i'm not alone here.  from my reading, i can see that there are others struggling here like i am.  so what should we do about it?  how do we get serious again and get back to the people we invisioned the day we left the hospital as fresh post ops?  how can i reset my mind?

You have to make the decision for yourself.

People can do the 5dpt over and over again.. but unless you change your mindset, it's just another tool that can't do all the work.

Until *you* decide you have to get back on track, nothing anyone says will help.

But I suggest you find some support groups and get going ASAP.  These tend to have lots of encouragement for those who have just had the surgery, and that bubbly feeling will rub off on you.

I regained 70!  Of course, I had two good medical reasons why.. but until I sat down and decided to get serious again, it wasn't going to work.  I've lost 54 of that since March 1st, and you can do the same.

hi

you need to stop thinking about yesterday and work on today and tomorrow, one day at a time

get yourself back on a sensible eating plan, protein first, then the other stuff

put away those carbs

drink your water every day

keep a journal , it takes time but its worth the effort.

soon you will be back in your lovely size 10s, but more important you will feel sooo much better.

good luck and p.s. keep posting here, thats always a good first step

hugs, jacki

I, too, have regained 50 lbs since my lowest weight.  I just completed the 5 day pouch test yesterday and managed to lose about 9 lbs.  I'm scared that now that the 5 day is completed, I will regress, but I'm going to try to concentrate on the positive that I accomplished it and can go on from here.

I think everyone has been (or will be) where we are when we realize that we've put weight back on.  I was always going to start dieting seriously every day and then something would happen and I'd tell myself TOMORROW was the day.  Well, 50 lbs. later, that tomorrow finally arrived last Tuesday.  I had stopped checking the scale, knew I couldn't fit into my clothes any more, and had lost all track of what I was putting in my mouth.  I still can't eat a lot at one time, but eating lots of times during the day gave me the opportunity to gain all this weight back.

No one has the answer for you, but you.  If you're not ready, no one can make you do it, and likewise, when you are ready, no one can stop you from beginning to get your control back.  One promise I have made myself is to weigh often so it doesn't get away from me again.  I also find a lot of support just reading the posts here and looking through the before and after pictures.  I'd stopped coming to this site and I live in a very small, rural area that doesn't offer support groups for WLS.  This site is my only opportunity for support from people struggling with issues I have.  It has helped me a lot, personally, to just see that I'm not alone.

When you're ready, drop me a message and we can support each other, if you want, and together we CAN beat this thing and regain control.

i completely agree with Andrea, you HAVE to be 100% ready to make the commitment again.  i gained back over 100 lbs over the course of 4 years.  sure, i had 3 babies in that time, but i had no one to blame but myself.  looking back, i realize now that i completely took advantage of things.  was drinking with meals, carb city, and holy fat content batman!!

my turning point was looking at my old before and after photos.  i lost 170 pounds in 15 months and felt and looked great!  i forgot about how i looked then.  and seeing those photos reminded me of everything!  that was memorial day of this year.  i've since lost 35 pounds.  i started with the 5 dpt and that wasn't to lose weight or anything but to get me back into the mindset i had immed. post op.  (and detox the carbs).  i've noticed that now, i have zero desire for those 'other' foods.  =)  i'm happy eating my grilled chicken, fish, tuna & veggies.  i bought myself an elliptical machine and am on it every day.

the biggest hurdle for you is to be mentally ready.  if your not 100%, its not going to work.  you CAN do it again!  you just have to go back to the basics and remind yourself.  look at your pics from your lowest point.  remember how great you felt in your size 10 pants.  anything to psyche yourself up.  just don't forget, you CAN do it!  no more 'ifs', or 'maybes' or 'i don't know if i can's'

best of luck to you and i hope this helped some.

You are not alone, I'm in the same situation. I had my srugery 10/2005 lost 100 lbs was down to 185 and went to see my nut last week and back up to 215 lbs. I also have a closet full of nice clothes from NY&CO, GAP, LIMITED, and the list goes on, but I can't fit them. I am now in a size 14 and some 16's. I was wearing a size 12. Basically what I'm saying is I also need to lose some weight and I have just recently start eating right ,drinking at least 3 protein (Atkins Advantage) shakes each day. We can start the 5DPT together and be support for each other...... I have promised so many people I was going to start the 5DPT w/them and never started, but this is it I'm really ready to DO THIS. Let me know when you are ready to do it?

Im here with ya!! Im almost three years out,,and have gained about 13 pounds! That doesnt sound like much,,but after losing 140 its devastating! I too had stopped weighing,,and then decided to face the music. I'm glad I did it before I had gained more! My daughter from out of state came and said she couldnt see where I had gained anything,,and she was being honest,,but I can see it and tell it in my clothes! My 12's and 14's dont fit right, and a couple of my 16 denim skirts are tight. Scared me to death!
So, today I started with protein and Im staying with protein, gonna start keeping track on fitday again too, and I bought a big jug for my water!
We can do this!!!!Thanks for your post!!

Be Blessed

A revision won't put you back in the driver's seat. Really. Can't rest your attitude. Some do well with revisions if they are still at it, 4 protein shakes a day, no carbs, all water, and stil not losing. When they stick that attitude onto a revisions, they drop wt like crazy. But in reality, most who do those things will lose without surgery again, unless there is a mechanical flaw.

On yahoo grads, ppl started doing more of an Atkins plan in march or so, and those staying with it have lost 20 lbs or so, and have more energy, sleep better and are rarely hungry. Even those who fall off the wagon have an easier time getting back on. I started doing it a year ago or so, and while I'd like to back to potatoes & bread, they make my blood sugar drop and so it's not worth it. BUt it IS a clue what bread potatoes were doing to me before that i never saw.

It is so hard to get back onto that saddle. I've not gained weight back except for 5 pound that I could afford to....but what helped me was helping my hubby. He wanted to do South Beach so I stuck with the first two weeks with him. I ate a lot of black bean chili (I had crackers in mine because I did not want to lose weight...at least not more than that 5 pounds.

Get off the carbs and sugar. Have some protein shakes instead. Take it one step at a time. Find a walking pal...get to the gym if you want. Don't let that 20 turn into 25 which will turn into 30.

With the DS: there is no stoma, so no stoma strictures; there are no limitations (other than volume) against drinking before, during or after meals; 80% of ingested fat is malabsorbed; 98.9% of type II diabetics are CURED of this devastating disease, with data showing stable cure over 10 years out; there is the best average weight loss and most durable (average 76% excess weight loss going out 10 years) of all of the bariatric surgeries.  That's why I had a DS!
